Windows 10: Virus security protection with W10

    I have a HP desktop that I bought in late December with Windows 10. The computer came with a trial version of Mcafee and the trial version expired earlier this month. While I can't be sure, I think I installed Quicken 05 and MS Office shortly thereafter I bought the computer.

    This week I discovered that Quicken was no longer working properly. After trying several times to get Quicken to work, I gave up and decided to reinstall the program. I've NEVER had a problem installing Quicken on several computers when I upgraded to newer models.

    This time I just couldn't make it install. I kept seeing a "Virus & threat protection" popup on the screen which I disregarded, only to fail the installation one more time. I'm not sure if I removed Mcafee early in this process or not, but I finally did remove it from the computer. MS's Defender took over when I removed Mcaffe, but I had the same problem trying to install Quicken. I finally found myself in Setting where I turned off ALL virus protection and then I was able to install Quicken and other programs.

    The popup I saw was...

    Unauthorized changes blocked
    Control folder access blocked C:\program...\quicken...

    IF I had been signed in as the administrator, would I have received this block?

    Do let us know the following to assist you better with this issue:

    • Have you installed any third-party anti-virus software on your device?
    • Have you made any changes to the operating system prior to this issue?
    • What is the complete error code/ error message of this issue?
    • When exactly you get this error pop-up?

    Try the below troubleshooting steps and check if it helps.

    Step 1: If you have installed any third-party anti-virus software, I suggest you to disable it and check if it issue persists.

    NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it to install other software,
    you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

    If the issue still persists, I suggest you to uninstall the third-party anti-virus software.

    Step 2: I suggest you to run Windows Defender on your device and check if it helps.

    Windows Defender is malware protection that is included with and built into Windows 10. This software helps identify and remove viruses, spyware, and other malicious software. So, you do not need to install any third party antivirus applications.

    Anyone use AVG Internet Security? If so, would you recommend it?

    Any recommendations on a better virus protection app?

    I've pretty much given up on waiting for Windows Live One Care for x64. Please help!
