Windows 10: VLC Media Player or any media player won't play DVD

So I am going to tell you about this, when I was trying to open a DVD on a third-party media player, it doesn't play. I tried VLC, but it doesn't play without an error, while I tried it on 5KPlayer, but it has the same issue as VLC, then, I tried it on MPC-HC, but it said "Invalid Region".

The issue was either that my DVD drive changed region or I installed a software called InterActual Player, which came from a DVD of Ocean's 11 and caused issues to my DVD drive. I should either do a clean install of Windows 10 again or flash my DVD drive to RPC-1.

The mistake would be buying the Windows DVD player, which is a crappy and apparently buggy app. Take the advice given numerous times in this thread, which is to get the free

VLC Media Player, which will play almost any video or audio file, including DVDs.

I agree! VLC Media Player works and it's FREE. Forget Windows Media Player - not worth the frustration!

I've downloaded the VLC media player which is playing my DVDs. Why won't the windows media & photo apps work though ?

InterActual player looks like it is packaged on DVD. You can Wiki.
You didn't say what error message was on first two players.
I assume this process will work with boot camp.
To check region, with DVD disc in drive, right click on DVD drive in Windows File Explorer, click on properties, a window opens, click on Hardware tab, click on your DVD drive once, click on Properties, a window opens, click on DVD region tab. Is the right region set? I'm very sure North America is Region 1. You can change here but you only get so many changes so good to id what changed it.

Not sure if Bootcamp is getting region code from Mac OS.

 

I know VLC, 5KPlayer and MPC-HC can also detect DVD region codes, but it didn't work as well.

It did not work on Windows 10 after I installed it, it didn't do anything. Plus, maybe the software affects almost all third-party media players preventing it to play DVDs from other regions.

VLC should play any DVD from any region --doesn't use hardware for regional encoding.
However another option is to use something like AnyDVD or equivalent to rip the DVD which strips out region and then that should play perfectly with VLC (or anything else).

I suspect that your VLC install doesn't have the libdvdcss library in it -- so it's not actually the region coding giving an error but the DVD encryption.

I run VLC from Linux -- the libdvdcss library is installed as an extra package -- not sure about Windows though -- I do know that the old AnyDVD program would decrypt and de-regionalize a DVD when ripping so it would be playable without problems.

AnyDVD or equivalent is technically illegal in some places (although not in my location !!) so you'll have to do your own searching / googling.

Here's what's to be the problem,
The DVD (Super)drive (which is Matshita), caused these problems when it's trying to descramble sectors from another region.
My workaround: Use an external disc drive.
