  3. I had VMPLAYER Plus installed. Installed Windows 10 Preview without any issues. I then decided it was time to upgrade VMPLAYER to VM WORKSTATION. The setup for workstation, uninstalled vmplayer plus and installed vmworkstation. I then started vmworkstation, and had to search for my vm's, but once I found them, they started right up as if I had never left them. So far it appears that everything is working as advertised.

I installed Win 10 on VM. Took a while to get every thing strait. I like it after I installed Classic Shell. It seems to be a little faster than 8.1. But I don't have all the programs that I have in 8.1. I installed the 32 bit ver. I may go back and install the 64 bit. I think I did over kill on the Installation. I gave it 60 Gig. HD space and 2 Gig ram.

Virtual machines are nice. But I still prefer Real Machines. *Smile

I installed Windows 10 in VMware player without a problem and Clean Installed Windows 10 Enterprise on another computer. The VMware seems to be fine. I installed the tools without a problem at all. I put the Enterprise on a USB and installed, but it seems to have some problems with corrupted files. It may have been a bad install on the USB or a bad download. I will probably install it again, just to see. But the VMware Player was no problems at all.

Vmware - anybody got W10 to install and work properly

    Hi there

    Thanks for all the replies

As I posted earlier it was a Bad download I think - anyway it's all working fine. I now need to Virtualise W7 on it and I'm going to install on another machine as REAL and then try and use HYPER-V as per Kari's tutorial.

While VMware workstation is a great product the HYPER-V system is FREE and by all accounts VM's on it perform better -- interesting to test too.

I'm glad there isn't apparently any limit to the number of machines we can install this stuff on -- that was a mega problem with W8.1 especially as it wanted a serial number at install time and activation --- Windows 7 and earlier gave you 30 days before you had to activate - and with the ending of TechNet a Home user doing a lot of testing is not going to find it easy any more. MSDN subs are far too expensive for individual home users.

(Perhaps in the future I should try something cheaper - like testing Ferrari's !!!!!!).

    Cheers

  9. Is there anyway to get a laptop trackpad to work properly under VMware (I use the side of the trackpad to scroll), currently it just works as a mouse

tried installed the synaptics software but didn't work

I looked around for it but the only info I found was from 2006 which side it woudnt work, is this still the case?

    Hi there

I always disable laptop trackpads -- I HATE them with a passion -- so I can't really help you there.

The only passable type of "Non mouse" thing I ever had any success with was the old thing on the IBM (pre Lenovo take over days) Thinkpads. Nowadays I'll use a mouse even with a laptop - a wireless mouse is easy to use and small enough to carry around.

    Cheers

  11. I used to feel like that, but now I quite like the trackpad for scrolling, finger up and down the right hand side and it scrolls up/down, in win 10 I have to go to the scroll bars at the side

I will see if I can find a cheap usb mouse with scroll wheel next time I am near a shop, will help with testing 10

    Cheers

    Hi there

On a TOUCH laptop - Touch is actually quite good for scrolling and re-sizing. The Mouse is still the only decent tool I can see for cutting and pasting decent amounts of texts / pictures etc. I used to HATE touch but on a decent Touch Laptop it actually works very well in conjunction with a Mouse -- The Pen option on the SP3 is another good idea if using the new Ms tablet but Touch isn't really working properly on W10 yet.

    Cheers

  13. Vmware - anybody got W10 to install and work properly

Well didn't bother waiting till today to download 10, decided to do it last night. Didn't realise just how long it would take *Rolleyes finished the download about quarter to 12 last night, it took over 3 hours. I think it was showing the download as 333 kp/sec, is it kp/sec, know it was slow the ISO was 3.97 GB about.

I have everything in place to begin, hopefully later, got the email today thanking me for joining the Inside Program. *Wink

  14. Seriously if you have graphics power on a PC with the tools installed you can play games pretty well but you need a fairly powerful PC, this is one of the good uses of a VM, to test new OS and to run older ones like 98, NT4, 2000, XP or Linux and play older games which are no longer supported. (I am not teaching you to suck eggs, I posted this for new users looking and searching for ways to test the OS).

  15. With VMWare Player I can have the touchpad either work fully in W10's VM or in the host, but not both at the same time. Or at least that is what it tells me. I just use touch.
