Windows 10: VSS Shadow Copy service not working, wants to store on OEM Service Partition

Hi,today I attempted to copy my system partition for backup, the backup software showed me a VSS error. In the event log I found error 4001, saying that the shadow copies need at least 320 MB free space. The description also mentioned the drive where the error occured. After clicking on its link I saw that it's a partition with only ~100 MB, which only applies to my OEM Service Partition. I'm quite sure VSS shadow copies are not supposed to be stored there... How can I manually forbid my laptop from doing that?My system partition is BitLocker encrypted, but there are other unencrypted partitio

VSS (Shadow Copy)

We are using Windows 10 1703 with shadow copy enabled. For some reason on my own PC I am able to right click on a folder and see "Previous Versions" however for everyone else the list is empty. I can see the Volume Shadow Copy service does start up and run
however still do not see any folders in previous versions. Has anyone come across this before? We are not blocking or hiding the list.

On other computers there are no errors but the previous versions list is still empty on those.

 

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: A critical component required by the Volume Shadow Copy service is not registered.

I suggest you to start the Volume shadow copy service and check. Follow these steps:

a. Click Start and type services.msc in the search box.

b. Search for the Volume shadow copy service and make sure the start- up type is automatic.

i. Right click on the service

ii. If the service is stopped, then Start the service

iii. Select Properties

iv. And in the Start-up type select Automatic.

c. Click Ok.

VSS error: Shadow copy optimization writer failed

I use Carbonite's mirror image service to make a background shadow of my computer. I learned yesterday that the mirror image writer is not working because of a Windows service VSS error (I don't know what this is-just relaying what Carbonite told me). The
Carbonite technician told me I have a shadow copy optimization writer failure. However, my files are still being backed up.

Is it necessary to use a mirror image service? Should I worry about the VSS error and try to get it fixed?

Everything else with my computer is working fine as far as I can tell.

I have limited computer knowledge and hope I have explained this correctly!
