Windows 10: W10 b10041 Lock Screen Image Location

W10 refused to do it. *Mad
W10 wouldn't perform the changes (enumeration error) even though I changed the:

• Owner (tried Administrators, Users and myself)
• Permissions to "Full Control" (Note: Administrators & Users were already set to that anyway)
• Child Objects propagation

The "broken" files were already jpgs.
I copied one out of the location and tried to view it, but I received the same error message (invalid header).

Not without going back into LM17.1 (I'm in W7 at the moment).

I'll also try the other location that you mentioned.

I did that once in one of the W7 betas because "Trusted Installer" was working me over.
It totally hosed the install. *Biggrin

Additional
I tried setting the permission again and this time I succeeded, despite the constant barrage of error messages.
It was even more of an ordeal than setting permissions in Linux. *Mad

The "C:\<blah>\LocalState\Assets" location seems to be the right place.
I can see the new Lock Screen picture (the one I replaced) and a couple of other interesting ones.
After copying the images and adding the jpg extension:

I just discovered when you copy a Windows Spotlight image to the desktop & add the JPEG extension that as you hover over the image you will see the original file name.

 

They snuck a few more in for me

 

Windows can display some info in the tooltip if an image is a jpg.

Here is an example from W7:



Other image types in W7:

• bmp and gif images only seem to show "Item type", "Date Modified", "Dimensions" and "Size"
• png images only seem to show "Item type", "Dimensions" and "Size"

XP used to display a jpg image's "Comments:" data too.

Every so often you may get little messages on the lock screen!?

 

@Edwin I haven't got that yet. Did you click it? Probably a link to the insiders site

 

The links appear the first couple times you press WinKey + L after a clean install, then they don't appear anymore.
The upper left and lower right ones just tell you to check out the Insider Hub, the upper right one is an option to keep seeing the current types of pictures or switch to different ones.

 

Must be a 'Stairs' theme this month!
