W10 drops useful hyper-v resize window (from W8.1)

    Hi there
Never thought I'd say this but something in W8.1 is better than W10 !!!!
There's a missing feature on HYPER-V in W10 that was available on W8.1

You can't dynamically re-size the window in Hyper-Vm . This is a BIG BIG no no even if the basic performance of the VM is fine.

This is one of the main reasons that I still prefer VMWare (when it works) -- OK if you are just using the VM as a headless server etc but if you want a full blown Linux distro etc with a GUI you need to be able to re-size the window.

Who on earth checks what users need these days at Ms - especially with large size monitors.

On a large monitor the Hyper-VM looks rediculously small !!!! or in non full screen mode so huge that only part of the screen can be seen so you can't get access to bars etc at bottom of screen etc-- Ok doen't matter once it's up and running but what a BOO BOO !!!! --try and play spider or whatever on a small non expandable view !!

I suppose it's the same people who show on TV news tiny portrait orientation views of mobile phone footage rather than switch to decent Landscape views so all your nice 55 inch TV gets is a thin sliver of video down the middle instead of a decent full screen !!!!!.

C'mon Ms --if you want more people to use HYPER-V instead of VMWare or VBOX - just make the user experience better and don't remove functionality that already existed in previous versions of Windows.

    Cheers
    jimbo

    :)

  2. Hyper V deativication

    Hi Geoffrey,

Hyper-V lets you run an operating system or computer system as a virtual machine on Windows. Before proceeding in disabling
Hyper-V, please create a backup of your files for security purposes.

To disable Hyper-V, please follow the steps below:

    • On the Cortana search box, type Turn Windows Features on or off and press
      Enter.
    • Look for the Hyper-V folder.
    • Uncheck the tick-box next to the main Hyper-V folder and click
      OK.
    • Restart your PC.

Should you have further questions, please let us know.

Where is the Hyper V Manager, How to I start it ?

I am trying to setup an XP virtual Machine on Windows 10 Pro.

I followed the steps in Neil Peterson article of 5/9/2016.

System Requirements - done - ok

    Install Hyper-V - done - ok

Create a Virtual Switch - skip

    Create a Virtual Machine

Create a Virtual Machine with Hyper-V Manager

These steps walk through how to manually create a virtual machine and deploy an operating system to this virtual machine.

    • In Hyper-V Manager, click Action > New >
      Virtual Machine
      to bring up the New

Uhhhhhhhhh - this step obviously implies one knows

    1) Where the Hyper-V Manager is

    2) How to start the Hyper-V Manager

    Isn't that odd ?
