I'd like to see the search box moved from the task bar and into the start menu. Having a separate icon that pops up only the search box right next to the start menu, which pops up everything else, is wasteful of task bar space, and poor design.

The option to have the search box appear on the task bar should display it there when enabled, but move it to the start menu when it is disabled.

Off topic, that new server for forum working good I see, old one was getting pretty slow with all that suddenly heavy traffic as I predicted a week ago.

That box can be shrunk to ordinary icon size, doesn't have to be a box.

    My sentiments exactly.
Nor will it change their mobile fortunes.

  5. I know, but as an icon it's meaningless to have it outside of the start menu - which is also an icon of same size, with plenty of room within it. Better to click one icon and get access to everything, than to click one icon for access to everything except search, and then a separate one for access to only search and nothing else.

An extra icon on the task bar just takes up real estate.

Shopping for W7 may prove to be pretty difficult soon. Many were crying about W8 and wanting to switch back to 7 but that craze died fast. Many new brand name desktops, laptops and other devices stopped support for W7 and soon only museum grade computers will be left with W7 or God forbid XP.
Future is coming, like it or not, good or bad, might as well make best of it. IT professionals better get on with program or get out of it if they can't learn enough to be proficient with new OS and technology to help other less fortunate ones. Those at help desks can still go with old mantra "Reset your computer and try again".

Maybe not a complete fail - it seems that (with 10) they are going in the right direction compared to Win 8.

As for the car analogy, I agree, and for me growing up with cars from the 60's and 70's the dimmer switch, windshield wipers, headlights, etc. were usually in the same relative position for decades. Remember the dimmer switches on the floor board by your left foot? I have 5 vehicles now and each one has those controls in a slightly different place. No big deal until you have to make a quick decision while driving.

Windows 8/8.1 maxed at only ~19% share of the desktop PC market - while Windows 7 is still at ~53 - 60% of the total desktop PC market. I would guess that user preference of Windows 7 over 8 never subsided.

  11. I would prefer to do this, to remove it from the task bar - but then where can the search box be accessed?

Windows 10 is a huge upgrade from Windows 7 for me... everything I did in Windows 7, I can still do in Windows 10.

Those are already installed not new purchases. Win7 took few years to catch up to XP. As far as cars go, give me back my 351 Cleavland V8 and I will not care about light dimmer or wiper switch.
