Windows 10: W10 Fail

What kind of support tech are you that can't be bothered to learn something new?
Things evolve and you need to get on with the times and learn to adapt.

Yea. But since this is the "W10 Fail" thread, lets just elabarate a bit on W10 failings anyway.

Because making shortcuts in system directories is an improvement over just dragging the program to wherever you want it to be on a fully customizable list of menus. Hey, you could customize your start menu even in win95 for gods sake, and now you have to resort to edit system directories? Its upsetting because Microsoft markets Win10 with the big "start menu is back" slogan. Well, it's back. With ZERO customizability, and all for pushing recently installed mobile apps and their advertisements along with news feeds right into your face.
Also, if you add a program to the start menu as a Tile first, and then you decide to add it to the "all apps" list by making a shortcut for it in the aforementioned system folder, search will not find it. I would call it a bug, but since adding your programs to the start menu is not a feature to begin with (now just let this thought linger in your mind for a moment - ADDING PROGRAMS TO YOUR START MENU IS NOT A FEATURE IN WINDOWS 10) - so, considering this, I guess "bug" were an inappropriate term...

Well, I did figure out somehow that the language list order determines app language, while "windows display language" is only valid for the "PC" side. Still, having a tablet interface with tablet apps on one side, and having PC interface on the other just does not strike me as a very convenient and productive innovation.
Also, search does not suck for just me, there are quite a few threads on the forums concerning with search issues. Also the libraries "Camera Roll" and "Saved pictures" keep reappearing despite being deleted - not just for me. Obviously having the Control Panel and the Tablet Settings overruling each other are not inconvenient just for me.
The only thing I have not mentioned was the "black screen issue" I ve gotten a few times, now I assumed THAT was really the fault of my harware being too old and having driver problems - but then I saw threads about it on this very forum, so it obviously happens to others as well.

well, I d rather have my OS adapt to my needs and not the other way around. This is called customizability, and this is what Win10 lacks the most at the moment. Windows 7 became better and more popular than windows XP not because people learned how to adapt, but because it was more flexible had more functionality and was more customizable than XP was. I think the same could have been expected from the "best windows yet" as well.

 

Those of us who are "like minded" will influence Microsoft to make a better update to this new Windows System from our feedback, not to mention the new computer buyers who will bring their W10 PC back to the store after they get it home and say, "this is not Windows as it [should be]". The W8 buyers shouted to the world how terrible that experience was. I firmly believe that W10 is going to bang it's head into a brick wall due to the W8 fiasco.

We Windows loyalist keep guiding Microsoft to stick with "what worked". They best listen or they will be selling a lot more Windows 7 OEM disks to manufactures.

I have to laugh at the folks who told me how great Windows 8 was and that there was no need for a Start Menu. They were so adamant about that, it was crazy! Now they all are eating crow.

I would guess that you not only look out for your own system satisfaction but for others as well. The mavericks just want something to play with, with no regard to the masses. That's just fine but to shrug off smart observations by people who care about other people's computer experience is just plain silly.

 

MS updates finally trashed the up-grade to 10. Was using split drives for some applications. August 5th update did it in. Solution, new SSD 500gb. Clean install, use license from upgrade win 8.1 to 10 and now have a stable system again. LoL. At least the games are back.

 

If we wanted Windows 7 we'd stick to Windows 7, just as you should do. Personally I hate Windows 7, because it was just XP with name changes and things moved for the sake of "being new". At least this time around things are actually new and have new looks.

 

W7 was a good OS and it got the job done for me, but I enjoy using W8.1 much more. And so far I have had a good experience with W10 as well.

If either side in your obstinate battle stepped back and considered, you would all have to acknowledge that Windows 10 has some significant improvements over 7 and 8, and it also has a few new annoyances and shortcomings.

After using it for about a week, I have decided to stick with W10 and look forward to gradual improvements. It is certainly usable and (as with every new OS version) I have learned workarounds for its annoyances.

It seems they learned from the errors of Win 8 (when it was too Metro, before 8.1). Win 10's new hybrid Start Menu is a fair compromise between what's wanted by a younger generation, who swipe things around on their touch pads and iThings, and people like me who only use desktop programs.

The new Start Menu isn't perfect yet, but the basic idea is good and it's already a big advance on 7 and 8, combining the best of each. Old blokes like me can avoid it with a shareware replacement menu. So why should I begrudge Microsoft also catering to my children and grandchildren within the same OS.


You spend much more time relating to your familiar programs than to the OS.
When I'm working in a program such as Photoshop, or browsing the web with Firefox, I have no clue what Windows version I am in. 7/8/10 who cares! It's irrelevant, especially when the current program is maximized.

So please keep your passionate loyalties for football teams, not for slightly different operating systems. *Smile

 

I guess you didn't read that I take care of hundreds of computers owned by senior citizens. Windows 7 is plenty for them and they have learned it well.

As for professionals, they won't see W8 or W10 in the large corporations, ever. If anything, W7 will get pushed back to 2025 for extended support.

Why? Familiarity, not new learning curves.

I won't change these people's minds but when someone searches the net for opinions they'll see that professionals are looking out for their interests.

 

Then.. why complain about an OS that no one is forcing you to use and/or like??

I asked a question in a very civil manor.. did I call you a name or something?? No..

I have zero issue with you using any OS that you want to and helping the seniors that you help using what ever OS they want to use. Still not uncivil, IMO. My only question is why rag on an OS that you don't plan on using??
