W10 fails to install, but did make a C: partition.

Hi I decided to do a fresh install, made a USB stick and booted from it, hopefully that means it's viable. The current latest .ISO that MS do, downloaded the tool and let it do it's work. Windows lists many partitions, because I have a working Linux Mint install et al. It made a new partition, wiping my current C: and then pretended to install, terminating with a message stating that there was no suitable partition, it needs secure boot and NTFS etc. So I can, and did try setup.exe from the install media, same result. So what do I need to make / do to force a W10 install onto a 320 gig NTFS partition. It is currently /dev/sda3 the 3 rd partition after the EFI and MS reserved partitions? TIA.

    :)

  2. Vista Beta 2 Installed

Well first I defragged the drive, then go into partition magic and select "create a new partition" and make sure it is "after c:"

Then click the rest of the way through the menus, and in the lower left there is a list of pending activites and click "apply" and you will have to restart and before windows boots partition magic does its thing.

    W7 Hard drive partition issue

to get rid of that 100 meg windows partition that setup creates for you on a new install on a blank hdd:

    - press shift+f10 when on the partition management screen in setup <-- this opens a command prompt
    - diskpart <-- start the windows command line partition management tool
    - list disk <--- list the installed hdds in this computer for the next step
    - select disk 0 <- might have to replace 0 with the number of the correct disk
    - clean <-- this will erase all data on the disk you selected one step up- dont use the wrong disk!
    - create partition primary <- creates a primary partition taking up all space on the drive, adjust the command if necessary
    - exit, exit to exit diskpart and the command prompt
    - click refresh in partition manager and select your newly created partition and install to that
