Well Vista and W8 & 8.1 were flops they finally got all cylinders firing on W7 now here we go again. If it ain't broke don't fix it. But it's like automobiles, they can't make money making one good model they have to sell sell sell, people need bonuses, jobs and whatnot. Personally I would've really rather them enhance the good of W7 and make it as close as possible because to me it was a winner but it doesn't fit the profit penetration models.

  2. Thats odd that they didnt take, did you try a clean boot and installing them? sometimes other software can screw with the installation. Try installing them in a clean boot environment , it just may work. This site will walk you though it if needed https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/929135

When it comes to support for Legacy Graphics Cards, from my experience I generally find AMD cards have better OEM driver support followed by Intel which generally uses the Windows built in drivers or may have new drivers updates via Windows Update but not through OEM.

In my experience, NVidia generally supports old cards for around 5 years, ATI for about 3 years and Intel seemingly forever.

This is why I no longer buy ATI. I was tired of getting stranded with cards that were only about 3 years old.

thanks guys seems like I got one that won't and one that don't. the ati legacy drivers they offer is an across the board 4thouosand series and it prolly would work with W7 same w/15.7.0&15.7.1 latest greatest; in my mind its W10 who's the bad guy in this movie and until this DX12 thing is resolved by M$ i'll be in limbo. just might try the fresh OS install on the craptop as i use it as a 'backup' anyway just to get online and conduct business and certainly don't game with it with its weak sister gfx. its what led me to get a desktop because gaming became so much fun for me in my retirement.
as far as the desktop goes i'll tinker w/the craptop and just wait til my number rolls around for the desktop and quit trying to jump the queue line. i am in the process of doing a bare bones with all bigger and better parts to make my uber gaming machine, better mobo, bigger fans and so forth just might break down and just buy W10 for it, dunno, the more i navigate around the craptop seeing what they've done to booger up the OS, what i've seen so far it still has some rough edges that need to be ironed out. not a fan of their M$ Update deal whereas we as users have no choice in the matter you're gonna get auto-updates whether you want em or not and that was an issue in the previous OS i was getting updates that hindered my rig for instance an amd sata driver that rendered sata ii speeds or 3gbs rolled it back and got 6gbs thats just one of a few of the auto updates that caused me to switch from auto to let me choose mode.
we'll put this to bed for now as i do feel confidant amd or M$ will come up with something as there are scads of 4k and 5k ati mobility gfx in craptops, far too many to be ignored.
thanks again guys and ten forums is proving to be a good place to come to and seek info.

Look at the list of supported devices, you'll see HD 3000 series IGP, those just about 8-9 years old now and the other card I use to own HD 4770 is about 6-7 years old.

You'll see no such thing from NVIDIA, I experienced this with Windows 7 initial release; my legacy AMD cards had driver support but NVIDIA did not do the same through OEM drivers for their legacy cards.

AMD won't keep updating their drivers for legacy cards but they will at least release one or two new package every major Windows Update that changes the kernel number.

There's no such thing when it comes to NVIDIA, they usually just tell you the card is too old and moved to legacy without drivers support.

Intel will at least give you drivers for their legacy cards through Windows Update and quite a bit too but we all know WU drivers are not the very best.

Thanks I see in the French version they list my embedded Mobility HD 4250 as as 4200 series. My issue is when I use that update W10 still kicks it back saying ''there are no graphic drivers detected, please update your drivers'' I know AMD, bless their hearts, try to stay up on things. Take for instance the 14.12 Omega update within two weeks they had 15.1-15.2-15.5-15.6 & 15.7 and now 15.7.1 the ones prior to 15.7 were game related (mostly the Batman fiasco) my issue still exists with the mobility switchable laptop graphics (4250 & 5470) at the moment my laptop is running W10 on Windows gfx.
