Windows 10: W10 install taking forever, won't complete

Hi guys,

Got my self another weird one here. Decided to resurrect an old desktop of mine to give to a family member. When I was using it it was running W7, the only reason I stopped using it is because I built another system. I've whacked a brand new HDD in, replaced the heatsink & fan, other than that the system is as it was.

W10 install (from USB) is taking absolutely forever. Every step of the process is taking an inordinate amount of time. Two hours to install, and it's been on the "Just a moment" screen for over an hour. I've now switched it off. I've tried 3 times and this has happened on every attempt.

The system far exceeds the requirements for W10 and I know the boot media is good because I've installed from it several times with no issues. Does anyone have any ideas? I know this is a hard one to address in a forum but maybe someone has had this problem before? I've done the googling and found several sources with this problem but they all end up being something like dead HDD or 200 USB sticks plugged in or something.

Hi dalchina. Good news, I followed your suggestion and reinstalled the update and now it appears as "installed correctly" *Biggrin Maybe it was not necessary to run the Windows Update Troubleshooter or maybe if necessary. But using it I do not think it could have worsened something. The installation was very fast, unlike the first time it showed step 1 and step 2 completed.
