Windows 10: W7 good though it is seems REALLY SLOW after latest W10 builds

Is your W10 an upgrade or clean install? It all depends on installed programs on your system especially if you have a lot of programs that loads on start up.
Also, if you have an external hard drive plugged in, that also slows down your boot up time. The system scans all connected hardware on boot up.

 

Unless you disabled FastStartup, when you're booting W10, you're really just waking it up from hibernation -- so, in that case, it's bound to be a lot faster than cold booting Win7.

Another contributing factor is the amount of stuff you have auto-loading during startup. Since Win7 has been around for a long time, it's likely you have a lot of stuff; whereas, with Win10, you may have a lot less stuff that auto-loads.

I've disabled FastStartup in Win8 & Win10, and those both load a little faster than Win7 -- but in Win7, I have more stuff auto-loading than in the others. If I go to the trouble to run MSCONFIG and disable all the startup stuff, Win7 boots in much the same time as the others.

 

Nah, this is a naked system which was an upgrade. Only 2 programs installed - CCleaner and WinDirStat. This compares to Win8.1 which is in exactly the same environment and has a LOT of programs installed.

 

In our tests, Windows 8.1 is faster than Windows 10, and both are faster than Windows 7.

 

I have a dual boot set up(Win8.1.1/Win10) and the difference in boot time is hardly noticeable.. to me at least.

 

Boot times of Win 10 and Win 8.1 are very very close. I can't feel any significant difference.

 

Feel is one thing, measured data is another. Check Event 100 in the event viewer. That will give you the exact boot times.

 

Yes; if you have Win 7 that was installed from the dealer, yes it's bad and slow, due to advertising crap that was installed along side software needed to run OPS, but try to do a clean install of win 7 from an ISO or get retail Win7 OPS, if you have a legal activation key, you will see what i'm talking about,I've done that, i even bought an extra HDD just to try it,so i would not erase my original install. and i couldn't believe how fast Win 7 turned out to be compared to the dealer factory install.

not only boot times are practically the same on Windows 8,1 and Windows 10, but if you open start (which i cannot anymore, being on Build 10061) and go for the full screen, they almost are the same also.

You get on the left options including the apps menu, and on the right the tiles from Wndows 8,1.

I use Windows 7 Ultimate as my main OS on my newest machine and I find it good enough, even though it is only a dual core CPU.
The machine I have Windows 10 (10074 Build) on is a Quad core AMD, I would need to have equivalent machines to make that
comparison but, I will be doing so soon. The Win 10 machine does seem to be a little quicker but, I still need to look into it more.
