Windows 10: Wake On Lan not working from shutdown state

So I am trying to enable Wake On Lan for my PC so I can turn it on remotely. The PC is in an odd spot so reaching the power button is awkward so I have made a custom wireless button (using a NodeMCU) to send the WOL packet over my network.

It works just fine when I put the PC in 'Sleep' state. However, once I actually press the "Shut Down" option in Windows, WOL no longer works. My motherboard is an Asus B450-F

Steps I have tried:

• Enabling WOL from BIOS (Power by PCI-PCIE)
• Disabling fast boot from both Windows 10 and BIOS
• Enabling Magic Packet in device manager
• Disabling "allow the computer to turn off this device for the ethernet adapter" after enabling both options for "allow this device to wake the computer".

I've tried everything on every post I have found regarding this issue. I also don't want to put the PC in sleep mode because I would like it shut down, and I also don't want it turning on by mouse and keyboard.

Does anyone have any other solutions to this?

Windows 10 wake on LAN not working from shutdown state

Hi,

When I try to start up my PC from a completely shutdown state using wake on lan, it doesn't work. However, before I reinstalled Windows it did work. I have installed the Intel lan driver for my motherboard (Gigabyte g1.sniper B6) and turned all wol options
on. I have also followed all steps in this guide: [ Solved ] Windows 10 Wake On LAN Problem After Shutdown

I also have wake on lan enabled in my BIOS.

Can someone tell me how to fix this?

Ps.: When in hibernate or sleep it does work

Windows 10 wake on LAN not working from shutdown state

Hi,

The "Wake on LAN" (WOL) feature wakes a computer from a low-power state when a network adapter detects a WOL event. Typically, such an event is a specially constructed Ethernet packet. The default behavior in response to WOL events has changed from Windows
7 to Windows 8 and Windows 10.

Windows 7

In Windows 7, the default shutdown operation puts the system into the classic shutdown state (S5), and all devices are put into the lowest power state (D3). WOL from S5 is not officially supported in Windows 7. However, some network adapters can be left armed
for waking if enough residual power is available. Therefore, waking from S5 is possible on some systems if enough residual power is supplied to the network adapter even though the system is in the S5 state and devices are in D3.

Windows 8, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10

In Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10, the default shutdown behavior puts the system into the hybrid shutdown state (S4), and all devices are put into D3. WOL from S4 or S5 is unsupported. Network adapters are explicitly not armed for WOL in either S5 or S4 cases
because users expect zero power consumption and battery drain in the shutdown state. This behavior removes the possibility of invalid wake-ups when an explicit shutdown is requested. Therefore, WOL is supported only from sleep (S3) or hibernation (S4) states
in Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10.

In Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10, hybrid shutdown (S4) stops user sessions but lets the contents of kernel sessions be written to the hard disk. This enables faster startups.

To disable the S4 state in Windows 8, 8.1 and Windows 10, follow these steps.

Note We do not recommend that you disable the hybrid shutdown (S4) state.

1- In Control Panel, open the Power Options item.

2- Click the Choose what the power buttons do link.

3- Clear the Turn on fast startup (recommended) check box.

4- Click Save Settings.

Wake on lan after power of not working (intel I218-V)

Dear all
I'm trying to get wake on lan working on my new computer after a shutdown from windows. I'm using the following hardware/software:
Asrock X99 Extreme 4 with onboard Intel I218-V --> connected trough wired lan
Windows 10 EDU 64 bit
The wake on lan works when I put the system in hibernation or sleep. However on shutdown it doesn't work. On shutdown the lights on the ethernet connector of the motherboard are off. If I boot the system to the BIOS and shut down from there the lights are still on and the wake on lan works. So it seems like windows 10 is disabling the network card on shutdown.
I tried changing the following settings:
- in BIOS: turned on wake-on-Lan. and turned off Deep Sleep
- in windows in the divice manager at the power management tab of the I218-V I made sure to select: "wake on magic packet", "wake on pattern match", "wake on magic Packet from power off State".
- Disabled "fast start-up" from windows 10 as I found some people had problems with that combination.
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make sure windows 10 does not disable the network card on shutdown so that wake on lan still works?
