  1. WAN miniport (L2TP) rasl2tp.sys bugcheck 0x00000009 when restarting

    Hello,

We have a Windows Server 2019 DE instance setup as a RRAS server for our corporate VPN clients. The server is functioning normally, except when restarting to apply updates. After 10 minutes, the instance restarts with a 0x00000009 bugcheck. A quick debug shows that the driver rasl2tp.sys (WAN miniport L2TP) failed to "respond in a timely manner".

I even tried disabling the miniport from Device Manager, but the command never executes (not responding).

We have all the latest updates.

Does anyone have a similar problem or has heard anything about this?

    Best regards,

    Branko

    :)

WAN Miniport L2TP / IKEv2 Drivers Locking up

    Hi all,

We have a number of sites which have L2TP / IKEv2 VPNs configured (various server/router hardware and configurations). In all cases though we use the Windows 10 in-built vpn client to connect and all are configured with pre-shared keys and typically RADIUS
authentication linked to a Windows NAP server.

For a large number (if not all) of our clients we regularly see the WAN Miniport drivers locking up and you have to either logout/login or manually restart the drivers in device manager to get them going again. These clients all use different versions of
Windows 10 and different hardware configurations but the problem is always the same on each.

The VPN client will usually get as far as "verifying username / password" and not get any further. In the event log you will see different RAS errors, usually 79 I think it is or 89 (whichever the standard, couldn't connect error code is. when it connects
successfully you also will sometimes find that the network connection on the client (via all adaptors) is completely broken after disconnecting the VPN and can only be fixed by disabling/enabled the WAN Miniport drivers.

Anyone seen this before and know of a fix?

    Cheers,

    Olly

WAN Miniport causes WiFi disconnect - Windows 10

    Hi there,

I recently discovered that the solution to my wifi problem (wifi not automatically connecting to my router after a restart), was to deactivate all the "wan miniport" devices in device manager. After having tried basically all wifi related troubleshooting
steps to no avail, I simply started randomly deactivating all wan miniport devices with the hope it would fix it, and turns out, it actually fixed the problem! Now my wifi reconnects to my router after a restard again.

My question is, I didn't read about this step in any troubleshoot for wifi related issues anywhere, I just randomly found this out.

Can someone please explain why "wan miniport" was causing my wifi not to reconnect to my router after a restart, and does Microsoft know about this issue? Because this was a
really annoying issue that I had for a very long time, only now I found the solution myself.

    Thanks
