Windows 10: Warning - Do NOT use norton with windows 10

I don't know if this is still relevant, maybe it's been fixed (by Norton) since January last year.

 

Don't know if this will help the user or not, but, I've been running Nortons on my 4 Windows 10 Pro computers for at least the last 8 years now. I've NEVER had a problem. *Smile

 

Norton is for free for those interested in it if they are subscribers to Comcast.
I would not advocate it. I have found MBAM to pick up some issues defender missed, but not severe.

BTW, why can't my Windows 10 Defender scan offline with my desktop like my laptop and as it is supposed to? I ran SFC - all OK.

 

Norton Security works fine on my other laptop with the latest Windows 10 version.

 

RubberDucky, are you a Comcast subscriber and do all your devices run OK with the Norton that Comcast provides.

 

Which would you not advocate? Defender or Norton? To me your statement is not clear.

 

I don't use Comcast as my ISP, I use Verizon FIOS. As for Norton Security, I been using it for 6 months before my license expired and after that I switched to good old day Windows Defender. And yes, Norton Security working fine on my laptop only but not my main gaming rig because I only purchased 1 license for 1 PC.

 

So no one has used the Norton security suite that is free. I admit my comment is not clear as I am trying to resolve this defense issue as we speak.
Right now Defender cannot scan offline which it should so am a bit sour about it.
Norton has haters and admirers.
MBAM caught a piece of malware Defender missed. I was told to remove MBAM from a good source. Defender is rated very poorly.
So I am sorry to confuse you as I am in the process of trying to settle on a course of action.

 

Defender CAN scan offline, I just tried although I don't do that often. You don't have to remove Mbam, at least not free version. Defender has grown to be pretty good AV but just like any other one is not made to catch all malware. I haven't used any third party AV for at least a year. I just comb system with Mbam, Adw Cleaner and few others targeting specific threats just before making a regular full system backup.

I click my laptop to run Defender offline and the process begins as it should. My desktop which is similar does not respond when I click on the scan off line button.
That is my problem.

I'm not sure what could be wrong, maybe wasn't updated right ?
Here's what mine caught since last cleanup:

 

I wish someone could help because I seem to be the only one with the problem which means something is wrong. Update history is all successful.
SFC is ok as is DISM health.
I cannot think what else to try to fix it as it is part of the OS and cannot be removed too install again.

 

When you install 3rd party AV it disables Defender and if it's not removed properly it may not restore it right. Every AV I know of has own program to remove it and that works better than normal uninstall.

 

If you think installing and removing one would help, do you have one in mind.
I notice under Defender settings that if you uncheck the ones listed that would turn Defender off, no? I did try that but maybe not enough. I know Norton and McAfee have their own uninstall tools.

 

If you had any 3rd party AV and didn't uninstall it with own program, maybe you should install same one and uninstall it same way again. A registry cleanup with Ccleaner or something like that after may help too.
