  1. Warning - Do NOT use norton with windows 10

Agree fully with you there, I have not long ago brought new laptops for home and business use.
All had Windows 10 preinstalled, the first thing I did on all of them was get rid of 3rd party Antivirus, and use Windows Defender.
I may have invalidated the guarantee but at least I know, and have peace of mind that I wont have any trouble with 3rd party blocking or crashing the laptops.
They all update 2-3 times a day depending if a bug is found and they all scan and been clear up to now of any virus etc.
So for me NO 3rd Party at all

    I appreciate the advice.
Do you have any idea why Defender will not scan offline like it is supposed to. It means there is a problem but I don't know whose end and to what extent - it may not be fully functioning.. All is updated and SFC and DISM health are ok.

Im currently using A.V.Norton Security Deluxe

And it works fine with windows 10.. BUT ! - Read = Microsoft Windows 10 (all versions) . BUT Edge browser not supported..
    But please dont use,
    Norton Security Toolbar
Norton Safe Search as default for Chrome
    Norton Identity Safe
    Norton Home Page for Chrome

And then i use Malwarebytes FREE !
    SuperAntiSpyware.Free
    SpyWareBlaster.

I use to be a die hard Avast Free user. But dont like the changes they made in the last few year's..

Using defender i had stuff slip in, and im a very basic P.C. user...

  5. Norton says this:

"I want to disable the Limited Periodic Scanning in Microsoft Windows Defender

Microsoft is making a strong effort to convince consumers that the Windows operating system is secure. One way that Microsoft has chosen to make this case to consumers is by encouraging consumers to enable Windows Defender to perform a periodic scan. When enabled this scan will run even when another 3rd party security solution is enabled.
We do not recommend enabling Windows Defender's periodic scanning feature on a Windows 10 system running Norton. Periodic scanning is redundant and will require unnecessary additional power consumption and may result in conflicting notifications and messaging.
Norton products provide a more comprehensive and complete protection. To know more, read Why should I stay with Norton instead of choosing Microsoft Windows Defender?"

I don't see why some call Norton "a joke" when Defender only scans and updates periodically. In my experience, both Defender and Norton have missed viruses they should have caught. When I check the logs, I see that neither one has done much besides gorging themselves on "cookies". There is just too much disagreement on this subject for the average user to figure out what he should do.

My offline scan now works- I think I used an image recovery but it was a while ago.
I use Defender, MBAM, native firewall set to default and the ISP firewall I have configured.
I will be bridging their firewall and using my own.

  7. I wonder how many agree with this statement, made by Jimbo 45 last year : "Norton was a joke long before W10 was even THOUGHT OF. !! You don't need ANY A/V on W10 other than the built in Windows defender. " Norton seems not to be very highly regarded but I've not had any problems with it, tho I don't like its interface.

I'm not disputing it, I just don't know and I get tired of paying for junk.

Warning - Do NOT use norton with windows 10

Any talk of whats the best program to use to protect your PC is going to draw lots of opinions, good and bad. Bottom line is choose one you like, either free or paid. I've been using Norton on 2 computers for years, along with Mbam and SAS. Never had a problem. I don't trust Windows Defender, but thats MY Choice. You should make your own mind up on what you want to run. Good Luck on whatever you decide. *Smile

  10. Good advice but for one minor detail. How do you make up your own mind when you don't know crap about this subject? Oh, sure, we've heard innumerable opinions but you know what they say about opinions. Everybody has one and they're all based on different experiences. That said, maybe its best ifWarning - Do NOT use norton with windows 10 :(A) It ain't broke, don't fix it. OR -(B) If it let's you down, time to move on
Is that about the size of it????

We've used Norton for about five years on four business machines connected to the 'net and have had maybe two incidents, both of which Norton Customer Service found, removed and repaired the damage at N/C. Not perfect, but hard to complain about that.

I agree with you on Norton's Customer Service, they have always been good to me over the years. I've been using Norton for more than 5 years myself. BUT I don't just rely on Norton alone either. I also run Malwarebytes Premium and SuperAntiSpyware Pro. Sounds like you've made your choice, at least for now. *Smile

Agree. And if anyone uses norton just dont use it's
    ,
    Norton Security Toolbar
Norton Safe Search as default for Chrome
    Norton Identity Safe
    Norton Home Page for Chrome
As these would be as bad as using Ask as your search engin

  13. Warning - Do NOT use norton with windows 10

When people say "I installed Norton & it came up with loads of Trojan removals ect" that's because you have been using very poor AV software before hand. Norton Full Internet Security does a good job or your money back is what they say...

On the other hand you should stop downloading dodgy software in the first place putting Trojan horses & viruses on your system in the first place, with Norton if you are downloading a program which is suspect they will stop you from running it & analyse that program to see what it is doing before they allow that program to install on any system across the world using Norton.

You need to trust your AV to do a good job & your pc will run clean with Norton.

AVG Free, Windows Defender are very weak protectors & Win Defender just looks after Microsoft's Software & then malware destroys your 3rd party software you have installed which made me go to a "paid for" AV.

Not necessarily doubting your opinion, but please explain.

You are saying that WD does not protect your entire system ? Can you please state your experience with non-protection of 3rd party software.
