Windows 10: Was your PC screwed up by this week's Wondows Updates?

This week I have been experiencing a system freeze on most sessions - cursor move but it's a blue circle. Ctrl-Alt-Del turns the screen black with just the cursor and no response from the O/S and the hard drive light is constantly on - if I leave it for 30 mins the O/S comes back to life.

I really hate Win10 automatic update policy.

 

- you can turn all updates off, but not recommended. & some editions allow deferring updates.

Suggest you
a. post screenshots of your task manager, highest disk and CPU first as appropriate
b. try a clean boot to check for basic program conflicts

and advise if any change.

 

Is the update being referred to in this thread the one that took ages to install and looked like it was reinstalling the whole of WIN 10 from the type of screen images and stages it went through before completing?

 

I think you're referring to build 10586 (1511) released in November.
You will see a similar process if you have to do an in-place upgrade repair install.
There will be similar major upgrades to come.

Did not have any problems with our last update, that I can see. *Smile

 

My issue is gradually getting worse. Can't rule out a hardware fault.

The problem is the same as before but sometimes the computer doesn't recover. The hard-drive make a power down noise and the system freezes requiring a hard reset ( something I don't like to do ). The power settings are set to never go to idle. I will check the power cables to rule out a bad power supply. Good job this is happening on my Email/web computer as I would be seriously screwed if this happened to my digital image workstation - which will never see Win10.
