Ballmer's CES Keynote Address

For those who may have missed it last night, Ballmer's CES keynote address

is available on Microsoft's PressPass site:

The Windows Phone 7 content starts at around 18:42. The only two confirmed

items for the coming update were copy and paste, and improved app loading

times.

While it seems to be pretty clear from the keynote that the current focus

is still aimed squarely at the general consumer as opposed to the

enterprise market I think that one needs to keep in mind that this was a

keynote at the Consumer Electronics Show. I'd expect that any enterprise

related announcement would be more likely to be made at the Mobile World

Congress in February.

Ballmer's CES Keynote Address

A few comments about the keynote:

• Happy to see cut and paste in action, can't wait for it to be over so we can address real issues with the phone like apps not launching and having to reboot the phone to shop in the marketplace.
• Liked that the update will include "performance enhancements", hopefully that will address the launching issues and not just allow apps to crash faster during launch.
• Glad to see 100 apps a day being added to the marketplace.
• Glad to see Amazon and BofA apps coming to the platform. Not necessarily that I want those particular apps but that corporations are acknowledging it. What bank does MS use? Just curious if a few billion in deposits can get a bank to develop an app.
• Curious was the absence of certain information: No sales figures, no mention of multiplayer Xbox Live titles, no mention of new handsets beyone the original 9.
• Steve looks good as an avatar and I loved his role as Gru in Despicable Me.
