  1. Way around Microsoft Family Setting time limits

    Hi,

My 11 yo son saved his allowance, birthday presents, etc. for months and months and used it to buy a new desktop computer to play games on, rather than on my old laptop. We mostly I built it from components and I set up his Microsoft account on it as an admin. Initially the time limits worked as expected although he could no longer do "my parent is here" to get me to add additional time.

I thought that for additional safety I create a local administrator account on his PC and make his Microsoft account not an administrator. This way if he needed to install something that required administrator privileges he could do it, but wouldn't be normally logged in as an administrator.

I did this, but he found that when he runs out of time now, he can do my parent is here and use the local administrator account to grant himself more time. Why would some random local administrator account be able give him more time? I set up his mom and I as parents on his account, it doesn't make sense that any other account could give him more time.

    -Eric

    :)

    Time limits in Microsoft Family

    Hello HalloSturmhorst,

I recommend that you try the following steps to troubleshoot Family issues:

    1. Remove the child account from your Microsoft Family account and add it back.

    2. Go to your adult account on the Family page, and toggle off/on time set limits for your son account.

If you need more information about troubleshooting family issues, use this link to read the forum article.
