  1. WD SSD with Windows 10 will not boot

Hi. I recently bought a WD SSD to put on a desktop Dell inspiron 3847, I made my installation media on a USB, I installed the SSD with its SATA connection exactly in the place of the old HDD with the exact same cables, I booted off the USB and installed windows 10 normally, the SSD was detected normally. But when attempting to boot off of the SSD it is not recognized in the BIOS listed as "internal HDD devices" therefore not recognized , nor can the computer boot off of it. I am showed with the message "no bootable media found" and a list of the SATA connections, with SATA 0 marked as "ins

    windows 10 slow boot

I was having a slow boot issue on my Windows 7 install a little while back. It would take about 30 - 40 extra seconds to boot up for whatever reason.

I would try following these steps, while this didn't solve my issue, it did increase Read/Write to where it should be.

10 Tips for SSD Optimization in Windows 7 - Part 1

Looks to be similar to this: https://www.back2gaming.com/focus-story/ssd-optimization-for-windows-10-windows-8-and-8-1/

In the end, I had to reinstall my Windows 7 entirely to fix the booting issue. It was taking around 35 seconds to boot, and after the fresh install it takes about 7 seconds to boot.

  3. Need some SSD caching advice

I will add to Eldest's information.

I'm using Intel SRT on my Windows Server 2008R2 box to pair up a 750Gb RAID1 array and a 240GB Agility 3 SSD for accelerating all of my virtual machines (ie: a non-boot volume.) Rather than speeding up the boot time of the host server itself, which almost never reboots, I'm instead speeding up the disk performance of all of my virtual guests.

The performance is drastically different when comparing the VHD performance from the spindles themselves versus SRT in caching mode. I highly suggest it.

EDIT: The storage subsystem of that server looks like this:

    Intel ICH10R Controller
    • 320GB RAID 1 array (OS boot + apps)
    320GB WD Scorpio Black
    320GB WD Scorpio Black
    • 750GB RAID 1 array (VHD storage)
    750GB WD Scorpio Black
    750GB WD Scorpio Black
240GB OCZ Agility 3 (SRT acceleration enabled)
    • LG 12x BDRW
    HighPoint 2720SGL SAS RAID Controller
    • 6TB RAID 6 Array (WHS storage)
    1TB WD Scorpio Blue
    1TB WD Scorpio Blue
    1TB WD Scorpio Blue
    1TB WD Scorpio Blue

boot failure new everything wd ssd win10 pro

Whew, lots of info in your reply and I thank you for taking the time to post.

Much of what you suggest in your reply I have done. Keep in mind all hardware is new. Yesterday and today I removed the win 10 pro wd ssd drive and installed it in another pc also with an asus mb and amd ryzen processor and it appeared to work just fine.
Put it back in the new pc and the same problem reappeared after one time getting stuck on the asus screen then turned it off, wited, back on and the same issue again. grrrr. So I then made a new iso formatted the drive reinstalled it and booted to the new
iso on a usb drive reinstalling win 10 pro going through several restarts and updating and it worked perfect. Turned it off waited a few minutes turned it on again and could not even bring up the asus bios choices screen which shows before windows boots.
Tried new cables different sata plugs no boot. Un plugged the power from the wd ssd and plugged in the other ssd drive with Ubuntu and it booted to the bios option asus screen so I checked the bios to make sure it was still slow boot with all else still in
default positions and it was so I booted with Ubuntu and it worked fine. Did multiple restarts, off and on's with no issues. Tried the win 10 ssd and not even an asus bios screen. Tomorrow I will try the new win 10 pro ssd on another commuter to see if it
works ok if it does the issue must be connected with the mb or bios settings.

    What am I missing?

I've noticed the latest editions of win 10 pro have some of the lost features of win 7 back and that is great.

    Thanks for your help
