Windows 10: "we found a windows 10 home digital license for this device running windows 10 pro"

I bought a new computer in August, and yesterday it stopped working. I am waiting to hear back from the company about the warranty. However I work from home and needed a computer to work, so I took my old hard drive from my previous computer that had windows 10 on it, and put it in the new computer. Everything is working great, except I cannot activate windows. I get the following error message:


"we found a windows 10 home digital license for this device running windows 10 pro"


When I try and do the activation and link my microsoft account, the troubleshoot doesnt work. If I click "I recently changed hardware" my computer shows up as a listed device. When I click on it, the message reads :

Unable to activate Windows
We can’t reactivate Windows on this device. Try again later.


You can also activate this device by going to the Store and purchasing a genuine copy of Windows.

Windows 10 Home will be $119, Pro $199.

Which is good news actually, because Windows 8.1 is loads cheaper than previous versions (retail licensing at Windows 7 OEM prices). And it sort of puts a huge hole in the Windows subscription theory.

 

Windows 10 upgrade license

Hello guys,

I have 1 license of WIndows 8.1 FPP/retail license. I want to upgrade to WIndows 10, but I one thing is unclear to me.
If I upgrade, will WIndows 10 license be retail or it will "turn" into some sort of OEM license?

I ask this because I upgrade my PC, you know, more memory, replace HDD, and I intend to upgrade the MB and CPU to Kaby Lake platform sometime in the future, (and of course sell the replaced hardware)
This thing is not clearly mentioned anywhere.
