judging by Ms's decision to develop a cheap ANDROID phone for the Indian / Chinese market maybe Windows 9 will be some ANDROID or LINUX variant -- who knows - but a Linux variant would certainly work seamlessly across all their devices both mobile and desktop -- AND perhaps it would give Ms a challenge to the big server players - SUSE/NOVELL and RED HAT. No serious large corporation users Windows servers on a massive scale -- maybe for a few LANS but the really big stuff is almost totally dominated by NOVEL/SUSE and RED HAT.

Now Ms working with a variant of Linux -- that's one for the book !!!.

I read that article a few days ago. I concluded that since MS bought Nokia it is what I'll call a "Training wheels phone" to eventually get more users on Windows phone and onto MS services. The Start Screen interface is tiled just like the Windows Phone so as to be familiar. Notice that Skype, OneDrive, and Outlook mail tiles to at least get people to try out those services. This will also help to sell phones to get the now Nokia division running in the black. I think it to be a smart business move by MS.

W9 a Linux variant? Nah!

 

Maybe the other 5 Windows Phone users will go with the Windows/Android hybrid.

My neighbor had a Windows phone, he finally got mad and tossed it in the dumpster. *Roflmao2

Checking all "the usual suspect places" that have had these leaks in the past (If anybody can remember the W7 testing frenzy a few years ago !!!).

Nothing so far --Ms has got this stuff locked down tighter than San Quentin California State penitentiary in Riot Mode. !!

Testing Windows 7 is what brought me back to Windows. *Smile Before that I was using Linux Mandrake on my Computers.

 

I have tested quite a few different Linux distros, but never tried Mandrake. Out of curiosity, what made you choose that one?

 

I tried Red Hat and a few other version but didn't like them. For me Mandrake felt more user friendly.

We used to call Mandrake "Mandrivel" -- these days I'd recommend for any Windows user -- OPENSUSE (KDE), LINUX MINT 17 (KDE) or DEBIAN (KDE). The KDE desktop IMO is the one that should give Windows users the least problems when switching -- but of course there are MANY alternative desktops you can use with these distributions. - I'd get away from UBUNTU these days - it's going through political shenanigans and the tie up it has with Canonical rather gets it away from the spirit of Open source and free development.

Meanwhile of course the wait for W9 continues -- I'm sure with new devices like the Surface Pro 3 W9 will certainly be worth the wait. (I like Linux too BTW and use it a lot - I often use a portable Linux system with several Windows VM's which can be ordinary windows - Only Enterprise can run Windows to Go but running other versions of Windows from a totally external USB device can be run easily as VM's from Linux systems. ).
