Windows 10: Web Browser / PDF error 8004808a

I am a non-very tech savvy grandma who is trying to save a pdf working document. Everything had been working fine until today when I received this error: Web Browser. Could not complete the operation due to error 8004808a.


I tried to look in other threads and it shows this problem, but I haven't seen a solution (or at least not one that I can manage).


Please help me.

Microsoft Edge Browser error for PDF documents

If you need to save the PDF files from a browser, we suggest downloading other browser from the Store.
You can follow the steps below to download and open PDF files:

• Download and install the UC browser and
  Xodo PDF Reader & Editor from Windows Store.
• Once installed, open UC browser and then visit the website from where you will download the PDF file.
  Tap the PDF file you wish to download > Click Regular Download.
• If PDF file was downloaded, go to App list >
  Xodo application > Menu icon > Recent Documents > tap the
  PDF file you've downloaded from UC browser.

Take note that you should uninstall any PDF reader applications installed on your phone.

PDF files are opening in my web browser instead of my computer

Kindly follow these steps to disable PDF files opening in the browser

- Open Adobe Reader/Acrobat.

- Click on the 'Edit' menu then 'Preferences'

- Click on 'Internet' on the side bar.

- Under 'Web Browser Options' untick 'Display PDF in browser'

- Click 'OK' to save the changes.

To change the default PDF open behavior when using a web browser:

1. Choose Edit—>Preferences

2. Select the Internet category from the list on the left

3. To display the PDF in the browser, check "Display in browser"

4. To open PDFs from the web directly in Acrobat, uncheck "Display in browser:

Trouble Opening PDF's

Before assisting further, I would like to ask you few questions:

• Does the issue persist in Edge browser?
• Do you get similar error when you open the PDF file in Adobe reader?

Check if you are facing similar issue in Edge browser.



Step 1: Open PDF file in Adobe reader and check if you are facing similar issue.



To open PDF file directly from Adobe reader, follow the steps below:

• Open Adobe application and click on Edit.
• Click on Preferences and select Internet.
• Uncheck Display PDF in Browser option and check if you are able to open the PDF file without getting the error code.

Step 2: If you are able to open PDF file in Adobe reader, I suggest you to
Turn off Internet Explorer,
enable it again and check if the issue is resolved.
