What I think it means is that somewhere along the line your Windows 10 got activated via an illegal activation service. I'm going to ask superfly on this forum to confirm, because he knows a lot about this. The reason you didn't get an activation for weeks is because that questionable activation server at IP address 10.246.185.66 was not available to do your activation whereas legitimate Microsoft activation servers are available 24/7 (except they are broken or overloaded). However, even if your activation process was pointed to Microsoft servers, you would not get an activation because that product key is tied to the specific non-Microsoft server you got your activation from.

Your permanent solution is going to be to install a properly licensed and activated version of Windows 7, 8 or 8.1, upgrade that to Windows 10 to get a real and permanent activation stored on Microsoft activation servers. What you have now is only temporary and will give you activation problems in the future. I'm afraid Microsoft probably will not activate your system for you without doing that because it appear like they won't have a legitimate license to base it on.

I'm not accusing you of doing anything intentionally, it just looks like one of those "self-activating" ISOs that you can find on non-Microsoft websites - or at least a non-Microsoft activation method that was suggested on a non-Microsoft website.

uh-oh...I have a feeling this is contaminated by kmspico. Should I reinstall by cd? Then I'll be back to where I started from...with no key....

OK...I dont know why to go from here. I had a legal activation and no kidding but I had to replace my mb. I see here that I have Win 7 N keys ...and I have a distribo of win 7 N. I assume I can install 10 from Win 7 N. Right or not?

    Yep, that would do it.

Yes, you can reinstall your Windows 7 N. Make sure it is activated. Then use the Windows 10 Media Creation Tool and you can either use the "upgrade this PC now" option to upgrade to Windows 10 or you can download the proper ISO file and upgrade from that and also make yourself a Windows 10 install DVD or USB for future installs. That should give you a permanent, non-expiring activation and you can re-enter the insider program from that, and/or do clean installs. A proper upgrade should not ask you for a product key. When you clean install in the future, you will skip entering the product key and it will activate based off information that is stored on Microsoft activation servers.

See the PM I sent you.

I'm back but the news is not good. It do Have 7N keys, a 32 bit disk and a 64 bit 7N system(or vice versa-I forget which). The system will boot but the needed 64 bits is too large for the 32 bit system dispacement.

I'm not sure what you mean by that statement. You can install the 32bit Windows 7 N with your product key. Make sure it is activated. Upgrade to Windows 10 32bit. Make sure it is fully, legally and permanently activated. Then you can do a clean install of the same version of Windows 10 in 64bit, skip entering a product key when asked, and it will activate based on the 32bit upgrade that was done.

The very first goal is to get a full, legal, upgrade activation pushed to the Microsoft activation servers.

I fear you are going to shoot me. as you are being most patient. I really do have about Win 7 N keys, about 6 of them and it will not take the keys. Perhaps the Win 7 disk will not take the N keys I have? I can give you the keys...wait a minute....perhaps the CD I have...is not an N system....

You can use the "Check product key" feature of Showkey (from this forum) to enter the product keys that you have and it will tell you what version of Windows 7 it is for.

Do you have a system image backup of WIndows 7 from your old motherboard? You could try restoring that.

Yes I do have it but there will be the same key problem I have none of this board because the board was different back them. I wish I had another disk but I've have a failure of a 500 MB drive and I have another on order.

Ok, on a backup...where am I supposed to put ShowkeysPlus and does it make any difference what version the backup is from and if the backup is on a CD or not?

Just save the Showkey plus zip file and run the exe file inside it. It should tell you what your Windows 7 key is and what version it is for. Run the slmgr /dlv and slmgr /xpr commands and see if they show you as activated via RETAIL channel, and if you have a permanent activation.

If those are true, then you can upgrade to Windows 10. It does not matter if the backup is on CD or not. If this doesn't work, I have worked out another solution for you.
