Actually it is impossible to remotely connect to a remote session and kick off Macrium via the boot menu. This is because Teamviewer does not run in winpe mode and would have to be running first. Basically, you cannot ever see the boot menu remotely.

I have never yet found a simple solution.

The only way I have ever managed to do it is to have a dual boot pc with 2 installs of windows that you can remotely connect to either, and use Macrium in one installation to restore drives in other. You also have to faff around with changing which is default.

Re. incrementals I agree. As I said earlier other leading packages now offer that in their base free package, and they are making inroads into Macrium's market loudly advertising incrementals.

I think she means if you start a recovery inside of Windows, it then asks if you want to reboot into WinPE to do it*Wink

Oh wow - that is a new one on me!

I am going to try this right now.

I guess you cannot see it working though although with a bit of effort, you might be able to modify the Macrium boot.wim to kick off anydesk.exe which can be connected to in winpe mode.

I have done something like this before but could never fully get it working.

As long as you have the Boot menu option turned on, it works just like the USB RE.

Hold on - don't you still have to select the Macrium Boot option from the boot menu first to kick it off?

You could change things so Macrium is the default boot option, then it would boot automatically. The problem then is pc would always boot to Macrium but I do not see how you can the change back to booting from Windows.

Edit - just had a thought. That probably does not matter as the restore will revert the boot order back to windows anyway.

So I am thinking how to do it remotely is

    1) Connect to remote PC (assumption is pc is on and running in Windows of course, and earlier backup was set up for automatic remote access)

    2) Add Macrium as boot entry if not there

    3) Set Macrium as default boot entry so no interaction is needed to kick it off

    4) Run Macrium in Windows to restore OS from an image backup

    5) Select Run from Winpe option

    6) Reboot PC and it will autboot to Macrium Winpe, and restore image

    7) Go and have a daft of amber nectar (or what ever floats your boat) for a while

    8) Come back and you should be able to remote into OS

  7. It should be possible to reconfigure the boot so it only boots once into the selected boot option and then revert to the original boot order.

Not quite sure how this is done the correct way though...

See my edit - it probably doess not matter as the restored image will revert boot order to that when image backup was done. You would have to restore boot partitions as well.

No need to mess with boot entries.
It's added to advanced boot option and system startup:

I have "Time to display list of operating systems" set to 0 seconds, so I can boot faster into Windows even.

Macrium creates a folder for the boot option and that is you RE.

  10. Yeah...this was something in the direction I was thinking, except for not using the UI but rather use PS or CMD (BCDEDIT)...

That was what I meant really. Use that option so Macrium becomes default boot option, and then when you restore image, everything reverts back to that in backup, so it boots to Windows so you can reconnect.

It would be nice if there was a "boot from this option one time only" option though.

It doesn't need to be default.
You just start it inside of Windows, and it automatically goes straight into the Macrium WinPE.

Or am I not quite understanding what you mean?*Confused

Maybe you mean for the reboot back into Windows after the restore?
Then someone needs to click restart on the other end.

    Found it!

To boot once into a boot entry:
    Code: BCDEDIT /BOOTSEQUENCE {id of your boot entry} SHUTDOWN /R /T 0[/quote] *Smile

I am impressed, it does the restore automatically - no need to mess with boot orders. It is so close - I just cannot see how to restart to Windows. You can shutdown Macrium but that turn off pc - we need a pc reboot option - maybe there is. Need to look further.
