Same here, but then I turn off scheduled scans no matter what AV I use. I too have never seen it cause problems while gaming and I do that a lot. Gaming is the primary thing I buy a computer for.

Get this straight, I am not recommending Defender as the only defense against malware. I am just saying that many people have used it, and MSE before it, with quite good results. Business users should never use it but home users can. I recently saw a test (I don't remember where and did not bookmark it) where they threw all kinds of malware at a Windows 10 system running the combination of Windows Defender and the free Malwarebytes Anti-Exploit and that system was virtually impregnable. Anti-Exploit is useless by itself since it has no signatures and relies strictly on behavioral and heuristic analysis. It picked up the new stuff and Defender blocked all of the known threats. It was pretty impressive. It was not 100% effective but really close to it.

As the future of W10 is based on Edge, and as of this moment Edge does not allow add on,s such as Mbam Anti-Exploit the reported test you quoted is meaningless.
As for Defender, do read my post "Edge Hijacking" where even with the aforesaid Windows Defender and Mbam plus Mbam anti exploit installed failed to protect my computer.
Having used the above since Oct last year without any problems, I have now decided they do not offer enough protection, and have installed Avira Free.

You have claimed to never use a firewall and having no AV for many years and you also claim you have never had an infection , you are a very rare computer user .

Fact is, the overwhelming majority of computer users these days are not very knowledgeable with computer stuff , especially all the malware varieties out there which is more sophisticated than ever before.

They need to have an effective security system in place , every malware removal help forum is so overloaded with people requesting assistance that many have to wait days for a response .

I think downplaying security is the worst thing you can do these days.

I'm a Norton internet security fan.
In the old days, Norton used to slow a computer down, but now it runs smoothly in the background.
    (In my opinion of course)

Anti-exploit is not a browser add-on, it is a supplement to your AV and works everywhere. It will work in Edge. You got infected? Well, we all know that no anti-malware setup is 100% effective. Also the statement that the future of Windows 10 depends on Edge is a bit of an exaggeration, wouldn't you think? Even when Edge gets fully developed, people will still be using other browsers on Win 10.

You really have to make inquiries before making your above claims, now below where does it state EDGE?
Where do M$ hope to make money...yes Edge, Cortana and Bing are all inextricably linked publicity wise.
They as have Chrome hope to generate enormous monetary benefits.

That picture just means to me that they probably haven't updated the text to include Edge. It doesn't solidly mean that it doesn't work there. Just like the myriads of other apps where the list of supported OS's only goes to 8 or 8.1 but they work perfectly in 10.

    It also says "others".

  9. Thanks everybody for sharing your opinions. I kinda forgot about this thread, actually thought would never get any replies. Now, I'll address some questions and I'll admit some mistakes.

What I tried to say with Windows Defender having some features cut was that, relying heavily on my Windows 7 experience, I couldn't find the proper configuration panel as before, so I thought they removed it in following this trend of making all easy, 1-click style software (As others have taken this road already). I've never used Windows 8 nor 8.1 so I didn't know about this change (I'm assuming that in those OS is the same case). But then, looking at the tutorials to activate Windows Defender on Win10, I decided to look if there was someone like me out there, with the same issue. I watched a Youtube video and then I wanted to shoot me in the head. All this time those options were there, available for me, but because they were in a different place I didn't considered them. I honestly thought those were either removed or hidden (as I found other configurations "hidden"). Then, adding to the problems, I had that thing with Folder View Settings not saving, I just decided to reformat my PC and start from zero.

I know, I'm a douche. Making a lot of noise for nothing in the end. But well, I freak out when this happens. I'm not used to not be in full control of my PC. Anyways, thank you a lot for posting and sharing, and I apologize for any trouble or discomfort caused.

    Cheers.

Avast AntiVirus Free, Malwarebytes Antimalware Free, Malwarebytes AntiExploit, SuperAntiSpyware Free, CryptoPrevent Free

All free, all do their own bit, all play together nicely, and this combination works very well for people who are *not* computer savvy and just want to be protected and not worry about things.

While that seems like a lot of protection thats a good combo since the only real time protection thats running is Avast and Mbam anti exploit .

The others are just on demand scanners which is a good thing to have , just got to remember to run them from time to time.
