Windows 10: What do I need to do to install Windows 10 64-bit?

What do I need to do to install Windows 10 64-bit? I have WIndows 10 32-bit, which is what my initial upgrade from Windows 7 installed.


I can confirm my PC meets all of the requirements for 64-bit. I have downloaded Windows Media Creation Tool application and am running that. It is just installing Windows 10. Never asked me about 32 vs 64 bit. Just started installing and looks just like the time I upgraded from Windows 7.


Everything I have read just said "You need to install a fresh copy of Windows". I don't have enough time to do this every day until I accidentally do it correctly. Where can I expect to see 32 or 64 bit being asked of me to choose? Please I am just asking exactly at what step will I see an option to install the 64-bit version? Again, my processor and RAM meets the requirements. And when on Windows 10 32-bit the PC properties clearly showed that it recognized my specs are fine for 64-bit.

Windows installed 32-bit version of Windows 10, when it should be 64-bit

In order to help you better, could you please confirm a couple of things:

• How did you upgrade to Windows 10?
• Have you checked under system info?

I suggest you to go to control panel and system and under system info check which bit is installed.

As your Windows 7 is running on 32 bit, Windows 10 will be installed as 32 bit architecture if you install Windows 10 through Windows updates. If you want to install Windows 10 64 bit, I suggest you to check whether your system
supports 32/64 bit architecture. If your computer supports 64 bit architecture, then i suggest you to refer the below link to install Windows 10 64 bit using the media creation tool.

Windows 10 Upgrade 32-bit to 64-bit

So, Windows 10 Upgrade is being rolled out worldwide, and I have 'reserved' my upgrade.

Currently my computer is running Windows 7 Pro 32-bit. I'm planning to 'upgrade' it to Windows 10 64-bit (via fresh install, of course).

After reading many references, these will be the steps I'll do:

1. Let the "Get Windows 10" app upgrade my OS to Windows 10 32-bit
   
2. Note the activation key
   
3. Download the Installation Media for Windows 10, but choosing 64-bit instead
   
4. Perform a clean install
   
5. Reactivate using the activation key in Step #2
   

(Of course I'll backup my data first.)

However, I still have some questions:

1. On Windows 7, the activation key does not differ between 32- or 64-bit versions. Is it still so with Windows 10?
   
2. Will I be able to download a different architecture on Step #3?
   
3. Is there anything I need to prepare beforehand?
