Windows 10: What Fresh Hell Is This Re: MS Version 1709??

Manually installing the W7 Security-Only updates from the MS Catalog is only a minor inconvenience (on my systems).
It only takes a few minutes.

A lot less painful than waiting for hours for W10 updates/upgrades to download, fail to install and then fixing the mess.

It's the same plan that "legitimate businessmen" use:

• Make you an offer you can't refuse (free W10)
• If you refuse, come around to your place and smash things up (GWX, dodgy dialogue windows, etc.)
• Supply you with cheap replacement items (W10)
• Suggest that you should buy insurance to prevent it happening again (W10 Enterprise)

When I read about this thing years ago (or maybe the previous version) I couldn't believe that almost no one was complaining (compare W10 outrage vs Intel Management Engine). *Confused

 

Last time I tried to update my W7, it broke my license and couldn't get it licensed even with new license provided by MS online help over Skype. To be fair circumstances were a bit unusual. Had to be modified by inserting drivers so it would install on my new Ryzen system and were an issue just after SP1. Only way I can run it now is as it came on the disk.

 

How much of MS success is in Windows vs. how much from its cloud activities?
The latter is the real growth market for MS ... and for some other players.

Are you sure that's not related to MS' false & ridiculous claims that W7 can't run on Ryzen and Kaby Lake due to imaginary driver issues?

I wouldn't put it past MS to have also modified the License Servers to punish all those won't submit to W10. *Sad

 

It's just a matter of some drivers that are missing from W7 because they were not even in dreams when W7 came out. Processor is recognized, missing drivers were for USB (both, 2 and 3), Samsung M.2 and partially for chipset. Because of drivers missing for USB KB ad mouse wouldn't work past BIOS so it was impossible to get them to istall them from other media like it would be normal way. Simply couldn't communicate with computer to do anything.
Once I got those injected in installation files it BOOT-ed and installed. After that it was just a matter updating rest of drivers which Asus and AMD had on their sites. W7 disk I had was very old and of course not updated in many years.

slightly to digress but I do like a bit of "day trading" and Options trading on Stock exchange.

The reason Ms stock price rises like that is it has loads of fingers in other pies such as A.I / Automation / VR /Robotics / Cloud / Service to corporations etc as well as the more common products such as Windows and Office.

With Banks paying pathetic rates of Interest these companies are the only place where people can either get capital growth or dividend -- there's currently no decent home for people with surplus cash either --Real estate has also topped out and even in the cheaper parts of USA the yields on rental income (after taxes / bank borrowing) can be pathetic too -- outside USA same problem in parts of London. Paris etc.

Ms I rate higher than Apple as Apple doesn't seen to have a lot of innovation going for it now -- mobile phones are pretty well "maxed" --any new ones would really have to offer really special features to persuade people to upgrade etc. Market also for expensive macbooks is limited too.

Anyway investing is always AYOR so it's up to you --just stating why Ms stock looks reasonable currently - especially Options and Day trades.

Anyway back to the topic ( this is a Windows Forum not an Investment one !!) -- I still think with all its faults W10 works fine and is probably the most reliable Windows yet.
