Windows 10: What happened that I have to use VPN?

I have a "strange" problem accessing a website (kls-soft.com) and the WSCC software on that website - so far, at least - and I wish someone could help me.

Initial information: (1) I use Firefox (latest version) (2) DNS servers 1.1.1.1 and 8.8.8.8; (3) I also use WSCC, kls-soft.

Two days ago, I did the software update and everything worked correctly. However, today, when checking for updates, the WSCC displayed an error: Cannot download file. Network error [10060]. Connection time out.

So, I tried to go to https://www.kls-soft.com/wscc/ and Firefox gave me the error: The connection has timed out.

As I have the Touch VPN extension, I started the extension and I was able to enter the site without any problems.

My biggest problem is checking the updates that exist for the software.

Here are some questions:

1) What happened that I now have to use VPN to access the site? Before it was unnecessary. How to get back to "normal"?

2) How to use WSCC over VPN using some software?

Strollin: I understand your suggestion, but that means I'll have to re-install all my sofftware etc. again. This is not an enticing thought at all.

LCDR: I tried the old activation code I used before - it is the same on you posted.

I tried the steps listed at the WinAero site. Last one failed because it said the server could not be located. But I did get the Jan 20, 2016 date back. So that's something.

 

What will happen on Jan 20, 2016?

Sorry if I did not make it clear - that is an illegal activation method - that xspace server must have been taken down by MS.

 

What happens if i upgrade to 5770?

my suggestion for a cheap build:


AMD 780G/785G board from gigabyte

Athlon II x3, they're cheap and the extra core is gunna help in the long run
4GB of DDR2/DDR3 ram (your choice, DDR3 is more expensive here)
5770 1GB (dont go 512MB!)

as for PSU, you dont mention what model... there are some 550W models that have less power than some 350W PSU's - but with that said, the specs i listed above are very low power.
