Windows 10: What if - I need to reinstall??

Will win 10 be with a backup? Can I order a backup reinstall disc? If I need to reinstall at a later date, is there a link?

You will need to burn an ISO disc (DVD) of win10, an ISO win10 is available here on MS, and elsewhere on the net. However, my system operating win 8.1 will be updated to win 10 automatically, and I'll just follow their instructions. My unit operating Win
XP which I will need to buy win10 to replace...I will do a complete clean (format) of my HD.

So unless your operating an older OS, or Linux, there really is no need to Format your HD. It is always a good idea to have the latest OEM drivers installed regardless of win7 or 8.1 before updating to windows 10.

or you could just make a recovery drive from the control panel - recovery - create a recovery drive

the info you posted requires the ISO anyway and has to many NOT needed steps

the issue people have is they do not use a format FAT32 USB and copy the ISO contents to a NTFS formatted USB and it will not boot UEFI

thus the need for rufus and diskpart

 

sorry, yes that was my thinking, a stick drive is the best way. I can make it label it and keep it safe. I have a recovery stick for 8.1 and a media installation stick for 8.1 by the pc.

 

windows 10 recovery makes a OS ONLY recovery drive.. No need for the recovery partition anymore
10 creates a reconstruct.wim instead of an install.wim - with a completely different layout.

you can capture any program or customizations into a .ppkg file stored on the C drive using the user state migration tool
then your programs and settings will be carried over into the recovery

I am still in the process of testing the recovery and customizations - been doing a lot of very interesting reading about the processes now used for windows 10 > much different then windows 8.1

once you create the provisioning package ( .ppkg ) you can add the customizations and setting to any prepped install.wim

not having used win 10 at all, you lost me on the word 'create' - but I am going to immediately install 10 on my laptop firstly when available, and play with it on there before even attempting an upgrade on my big pc.

 

refer to post 2 to download the latest preview
double click the ISO file to MOUNT it as a drive in windows 8.1 (or right click and select burn to DVD)
and then copy it's contents to a formatted Fat32 USB

the run setup on your laptop (DVD or USB) if windows 7 or windows 8 / 8.1

or boot from USB or DVD and do a clean install of windows 10
