What is a sensible and pragmatic backup strategy for Win10?

I am going buy a computer with Win 10 probably -64. I need to estimate how much space I need allow for just the operating system so what is reasonable balance between safety and having million backups. Of course we have to allow for other files.
Currently I have Win 7 Premium and the system backups have totally clogged up the reserve partitioned drive- I didn't buy the computer.

What is the reasonable strategy just for the operating system?

    :)

  2. Win7 Install Strategy for Upgrade to Win10

    Hello Community,

I have a question: what is the best installation strategy for Win7 to upgrade to Win10?

    (a) create two drive partitions C & D from a single drive,

    (b) install Win7 on drive partition -C (approx. 20GB or greater) for later upgrade to Win10,

    (c) can the application software (ie: Office 2010) be installed and operate on drive partition -D separate from the OS?

My thinking is since I plan to upgrade to Win10, why would I want to reinstall all my application software a second time!

Second, is it a good idea to maintain a separate partition for the OS only or does it matter?

    Thanks, Kenemla

    First time strategy game recommendations

All the suggestions so far have been RTS games. I'll add Total Annihilation and Supreme Commander (the first one, not the second one) to that list.

If you want to try a turn-based strategy game, I suggest you start with some of the classics, like Civilization or X-COM or Master Of Magic or Master of Orion. Most of those, except for the earlier versions of Civilization, are available from GOG.COM or Steam. OpenTTD is also a cool game if you want to start with a freebie. They are older, for sure, but still great games. It does not take modern graphics with lots of explosions to make a great strategy game. You could even try the Chess game built into 7--gasp. It's not the strongest opponent, but it plays a decent game.

Win7 Install Strategy for Upgrade to Win10

The best strategy is a clean install.

A clean install on fully supported hardware is a can't miss.

It's a good idea to have your software on one partition and your data on a second partition. That way, if your computer becomes unbootable or otherwise unusable, you still have easy access to your data. It also allows you to backup each separately.
