Windows 10: What is New in Microsoft Teams for July 2020

We announced a new set of features earlier this month that make virtual interactions in Microsoft Teams more engaging and inclusive, along with new capabilities announced at Microsoft Inspire 2020. Whatâs New: Meetings & Calling & Devices

We are continuing to transform the meetings experience in Teams to include new features, settings, and devices to create a better experience.

New multi-window meeting and calling experiences

We are pleased to share that the rollout of our new multi-window meeting and calling experiences has started. This new experience is the foundation for not only pop-out meetings and calling, but for Together mode and Large gallery views. You can find additional information on how to enable here.

New lobby setting in Teams Meeting Options: âonly meâ

A new lobby setting is coming to Teams Meeting Options that gives you greater control over who can enter your meeting. We are adding "Only me" as an option to the "Who can bypass lobby?" setting. Once enabled, only the organizer will be able to join the meeting directly. Everyone else, including people from within the same organization, will be sent to the lobby.

Microsoft Teams Rooms, app version 4.5.35.0 now available

The latest Microsoft Teams Rooms app, version 4.5.35.0, is now available through the Windows Store. Some of the most anticipated features enabled through this update include:

Support for video gallery-only layouts: For meeting room configurations with a single front of room display, you can now switch between viewing the video gallery or presented content. By tapping the layout icon on the Teams Room console, you can select different views based on their needs. Options include video gallery-only, content-only, or combined video and content.

Raise hand: During a meeting, you can raise a virtual hand from the center of room console to let people know you want to contribute without interrupting the conversation. Additionally, when someone raises their hand, a notification will appear on the center of room console and in the video gallery view.

Default speaker volume settings: From within the Teams Rooms settings, device administrators can now set a default volume level for in-room conferencing and system speakers.

Direct guest join for Cisco Webex meetings and devices: Now Teams Rooms and Cisco Webex meeting room devices can connect to each otherâs meeting services via embedded web technologies. More details are included below.

Auto-enrollment and device management from Teams Admin Center: Microsoft Teams Rooms have been added to the list of devices that can be managed through the Teams Admin Center.

Direct Guest Join

Many people work with organizations outside of their own and need to be able to join occasional meetings from other meeting providers. We want you to be able to join these meetings from your Microsoft Teams Rooms devices. At Ignite 2019, we announced a direct guest join capability that would enable meeting room devices to connect to meeting services from other vendors via embedded web technologies. We are excited to announce Direct Guest Join has reached general availability and is available through the latest Microsoft Teams Room app, version 4.5.35.0.

Through an embedded web experience, you can now use your Teams Rooms devices to join a Cisco Webex meeting. Leveraging this experience, you can use the Teams Room console to interact with the Cisco Webex app and control in-room audio and video devices. Similarly, the Microsoft Teams web experience is also available on web-enabled Cisco Webex devices allowing you to join a Microsoft Teams meeting from a Cisco Webex Room device. While no web experience can offer the same robust feature set as a native Teams meeting experience on a native Teams device, this will reduce the friction you experience when trying to join calls from external partners or clients who may not be using the same meeting service. The direct guest join feature will also be enabled for Zoom Meetings in Microsoft Teams Rooms and Teams Meetings in Zoom Rooms, and is currently in preview. Learn how to enable this feature here.

For those who have chosen Microsoft Teams as their communication and collaboration service but are not yet using native Teams devices, there are Cloud Video Interop (CVI) solutions available. While these solutions do not provide users with the full Microsoft Teams Room experience, it allows you to join Teams meetings from your existing devices as you make the transition to native Teams Room devices. CVI offers are currently available from Bluejeans, Pexip and Poly. At Ignite 2019, we announced Cisco would be joining as our fourth partner, and beginning today, their offer is in preview.

Manage Microsoft Teams Rooms and other Teams devices using enhanced device management capabilities in Teams Admin Center

New device management capabilities in the Teams Admin Center make it easier to deploy and manage a fleet of devices, with improvements across device set-up, bulk management tasks, and health monitoring. And now you can manage your Microsoft Teams Room devices in the same place as your collaboration bars and IP phones. Some of the enhancements include the ability to enable auto-updates, new device tagging capabilities, the ability to securely delegate device management access to partners, and more! New Options to Enable and Manage Microsoft Teams Rooms devices

Weâre delivering more ways to enable great room experiences with Teams devices: Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard and Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium.

Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard
The Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard offering, formerly known as the Meeting Room SKU, enables inclusive and collaborative meeting room experiences across Teams Rooms, collaboration bars and Surface Hub. Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard provides the necessary licenses for Microsoft Teams, Skype for Business Online, and Intune management. Furthermore, the offering enables Phone System, necessary for PSTN integration, and Audio Conferencing, where available. As part of this offering, customers have access to the newly enhanced device management experience through Teams Admin Center allowing them to manage devices themselves or delegate access to a partner who can manage devices on their behalf.

Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium
Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium includes all the licenses that come with Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard while providing additional value through a cloud-based remote management service. This service enables customers to shift the operational responsibility of managing and monitoring Teams Rooms devices to Microsoft. Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium provides 24/7 management and monitoring of room operating systems and software, surfacing insights and alerts, and taking remote action on behalf of the customer as permitted. Todayâs offering is just the beginning, and we look forward to expanding with additional premium experiences in the future.

Whatâs New: Chat & Collaboration

We have added new chat and collaboration capabilities to keep everyone connected. Check out the new capabilities below.

Contextual Search

Find information faster with contextual search in Microsoft Teams. You will have the ability to search for content in a specific channel or chat by pressing CTRL + F. Search results will only contain messages and files found in the selected chat or channel. This feature is generally available.

New file sharing experience

Weâre rolling out a new, consistent file sharing and access control experience in Teams users already know from other Microsoft 365 apps, including OneDrive, Outlook, and Office. Soon, when you go to share a file from within Teams, youâll have the option to create sharing links that provide access to anyone, people within your organization, people with existing access, or specific people, including those in a private or group chat. Stay connected to your Yammer Communities while in the Microsoft Teams mobile apps

Engage your employees with company-wide announcements and live events that they can access anywhere. Stay connected to whatâs happening in your communities, share knowledge across teams and departments, and crowdsource solutions and best practices at the edges of the organization. Starting 7/21, users with the Communities app installed in the Teams web or desktop clients will also see the Communities app in mobile. Admins pinning the app for their users will now also see the app appear in mobile. For info on how to install the Communities app, go here.

Channel info pane

Selecting the âChannel informationâ icon in the channel header will display summary information related to that channel including the description, a list of recent contributors and members, as well as system messages. Learn more here.

Filtering out system messages from the General channel

We are removing system messages from the General channel. Information about who is a member of the team can be found in the Member List or in the information pane of the channel.

Whatâs New: IT Admin

We continue to enhance our management capabilities to address IT admins evolving needs and make work more efficient. In addition to the new device management capabilities in Teams admin Center, here is what is rolling out this month.

Enabling App configuration in Team Admin center

We are adding the capability to configure your applications from the same Teams Admin Center portal, without the need to jump between portals to the application store to perform the changes. This new manageability experience enables you to configure App specific settings that will streamline your management task and enable simple customization of apps to the organization needs. App configuration is now available in Teams Admin Center for Teams and Microsoft Apps.

Advisor for Teams

Advisor for Teams is a new onboarding tool coming to help you plan the best possible Teams deployment in your organization and is now generally available. It offers recommended plans and a collaboration space for the deployment team to streamline the roll out of all the Teams workloads, including messaging, meetings and calling and Skype for business upgrade workloads. We have learned that organizations who use this tool might be able to increase their deployment velocity by up to 300%.

Microsoft Information Protection sensitivity labels in Teams

We are excited to announce the general availability of sensitivity labels for Teams, SharePoint sites, and Microsoft 365 Groups. You can now associate a sensitivity label with policies related to privacy, external user membership, and unmanaged device access. With users constantly creating and sharing sensitive data in Teams and on SharePoint sites, this capability allows for holistically securing sensitive content whether it is in a file or in a chat by managing access to these containers. Along with manual and auto-labeling of documents on SharePoint and Teams, sensitivity labels helps you scale your data protection program to meet the proliferation of data and the challenge of secure collaboration while working remotely.

Teams Communication Compliance

Back in February we announced the general availability of Communication Compliance â we are now announcing improvements, including improved remediation actions through Teams. In this release, you have the ability to remove Teams messages, Teams chat support for on-premises mailboxes, and the ability to automatically add all of userâs Teams memberships when creating policies. Whatâs New: Developer & Platform

We are announcing new features to the Teams platform to continue to provide a rich canvas for developers to build, engage, and transform workflows.

Create, manage, and deploy Power Platform apps and chatbots seamlessly â powered by Dataflex

We are excited to announce new capabilities that will make it even easier for customers to create, deploy and manage apps and chatbots directly within Microsoft Teams, at no additional cost for select Microsoft 365 and Office 365 users. With Microsoft Dataflex - a built in relational database for Teams - makers can build, deploy, and manage these apps using Power Apps and chatbots using Power Virtual Agents to simplify and digitize their everyday work. This powerful combination of tools expands on the promise of Teams being a hub for collaboration and business processes.

New Power BI app for Teams

Organizations are looking for new ways to leverage their data and take action based on insights. The new Power BI app for Teams enables you to access reports and dashboards in Teams to easily find insight in context and collaborate. This app also helps you make data-driven decisions at scale with confidence and provides new ways to connect insight to action through sample reports, automation, and easy sharing functionality.

New meetings extensibility points for Teams apps

At Inspire, we announced new meetings extensibility points that will enable developers to expand the Teams meeting experience. With this new capability, developers will be able to build apps or integrate their existing ones within the meeting surface and provide a richer collaboration experiences for users across the entire meeting lifecycle â covering events and actions from before, during, and after a meeting. These new extensibility points will be available soon for developer preview. Learn more here.

Single-Sign On (SSO) support for Teams tabs with Azure Active Directory

Teams tabs support for single sign-on (SSO) with Azure Active Directory is now generally available for both desktop and mobile! Developers can now build their apps to sign-in their users using the same account they are using to sign into Microsoft Teams â giving users a more enjoyable and frustration-free sign-on experience.

Microsoft Teams Toolkit for Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code

At Build, we unveiled the Microsoft Teams Toolkits for Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code, which provide developers everything they need to jump start their Teams app development journey. From code through publish, these toolkits provide a frictionless and enjoyable experience building Teams apps. Weâre excited to announce that the Teams Toolkit for Visual Studio Code is now generally available and can be installed here. Teams Graph APIs updates

POST / Teams API now available in the Microsoft Graph v1.0 endpoint. New team membership API is coming soon in preview, allowing developers to list members, add and remove members, and change membersâ roles. Lastly, granular permissions for proactive messaging available is now in preview., which will allow apps to install only itself and provide developers more convenient APIs for retrieving the chat thread ID for bots to use.

User attribution for bot messages

Weâre pleased to announce that user attribution for bot messages is now generally available! In scenarios where a bot sends messages on behalf of a user, attributing the message to that user can help with engagement and showcase a more natural interaction flow. This also helps condense the card design and provides a cleaner interface. Learn how to configure this capability here.

Access and manage Visio files in Microsoft Teams with tabs

Visio tabs in Teams allow team members to quickly access content in a dedicated space within a channel or in a chat. With the new Visio as a tab feature, you can create a tab from any Visio file (new or existing) in Teams with a single click. Adding a tab in Teams is now available to all Teams users. However, editing is only available for those with a Visio Plan 1 or Plan 2 subscription.

Whatâs New: Firstline Workers

Time clock now available on Web and Desktop

Now, employees will be able to clock in and out of Shifts directly from web or desktop with Time clock along with the existing mobile experience This provides a hybrid clock in and clock out experience so Firstline Workers can start their shift from wherever their work is, whether remote or at the job location, all with the geo-fencing capabilities. If you already have Time Clock enabled - simply go to the Shifts App in Microsoft Teams and get started! To learn more about Time Clock and how to set it up, go here.

New policy packages for Firstline Worker and Managers

Firstline Worker and Firstline Manager policy packages for Teams provide IT administrators with pre-defined policies and policy settings tailored for their entire Firstline Workforce. Policy packages simplify, centralize, and help provide consistency when managing policies for Firstline Workers and managers across your organization. Search for Shifts activities in Teams Shifts Audit Logs

Audit logs for Shifts, now generally available, provides IT admins a unified view and search functionality to help monitor and keep track of activities. Staying on top of employees clocking in and out and making edits to shifts is critical to ensuring smooth and compliant operations. Whatâs New: Teams for Education

Microsoft Teams for Education continues to evolve to meet the changing needs of institutions and educators. Now, there are more ways for educators to control their online classrooms and for IT Admins to support new team creation.

Student Lobby

To prevent uninvited students in class, Student Lobby, which keeps students in a lobby until invited in by the educator, is now available.

School Data Sync (SDS) team creation is back on

Admins can now (once again) automatically bulk-create both M365 Group and class teams for their educators. This helps to save educators time and makes a new team âlockedâ and inaccessible by students until educators unlock the team.

Whatâs New: Teams for US Government

We are here to support US Government clouds. Here are the new capabilities for GCC customers.

Microsoft Teams meeting attendee limit increases to 300 participants for GCC, GCC-High, and DoD
To help customers meet rapidly changing communication and meeting needs, we are increasing the maximum number of participants allowed in a Teams meeting to 300.

Increase in the number of simultaneous videos in Teams meetings for GCC High and DoD customers
We are increasing the number of participants who can be viewed simultaneously on the Teams meeting stage from 4 to 9. This new experience optimizes for attendees who have enabled video and places the remaining audio-only participants below the meeting stage. To provide a high audio and video quality experience, the layout logic will consider user bandwidth and alter the number of videos shown to provide the best meeting experience.

Raise Hands for GCC, GCC High, and DoD
The raise hands feature allows meeting attendees to identify that they wish to speak by toggling the hand icon in the meeting control bar, making it easier to actively participate in meetings. Raise hands will be available for both PC, Mac, and web-based clients to start, with mobile applications quickly following.

PSTN participant phone numbers are masked from external users for GCC
For those with Audio Conferencing enabled for their Teams meetings, we will mask the PSTN participant's phone number to users who have joined from outside of your organization.

Multi-Window Chat for GCC, GCC High, and DoD
You will be able to pop out individual Teams chat conversations into a separate window, to help them streamline their workflow and more easily move between ongoing conversations.

Priority Notifications in Gov Clouds
Share urgent messages and time-sensitive information more effectively with Teams. Priority notifications alert a recipient of an urgent message on their mobile and desktop devices until a response is received, every two minutes for up to 20 minutes. IT Admins can manage this feature as part of messaging policies in Teams.

New channel files tab for GCC, GCC-High, and DoD
We are rolling out the new channel files tab experience to the government clouds. This upgrade brings in more than 10 new features, including different SharePoint view, ability to view metadata, sync, row/column formatting etc.

Improved meeting join launcher experience

When launching a Teams meeting from a link, you will be provided with clearer options for how to join the meeting. You will be prompted with an option to join on the web, download the Teams client, or join with the native Teams client. We are gradually rolling this out over the coming weeks, and in the interim, you may continue to see this and the former experience.

Easily access meeting options during a Teams meeting

We are making it easier for meeting organizers to quickly and easily change their presenter and lobby settings once a meeting has started by providing a link directly in the participants pane. This new functionality is available for both scheduled and “Meet Now” meetings.

Download a participant report in a Teams meeting

Meeting organizers, especially teachers, often need to know who joined their Teams meetings. You can download a participant report, found in the roster view that includes join and leave times for participants. Available in the roster view, meeting organizers can download the report that includes those users who joined while the organizer was present. This feature is only available within the meeting while the meeting is active. Available on desktop (Windows and Mac) and the web.

Set tenant-wide default selection for "Who Can Present" in meetings

Tenant admins can now update their Teams meeting policies to allow for a new default selection when choosing who can present in new Teams meetings (everyone, people in my organization, specific people, or only me). Today, the default selection is “everyone” unless the meeting organizer selects otherwise through the meetings option configuration. To start, organizations can set this policy via a PowerShell cmdlet, and soon after we will have this policy configurable in the Admin portal.

Set background effects policy at a user-level

Tenant admins can soon assign a user-level policy to control how users engage with background effects in Teams meetings. Options include: offer no filters; background blur only; use background blur and default provided images; and all, which includes the ability for users to upload their own custom images.

Better policy controls over screen sharing from chats

Screen share from chat allows you to immediately start sharing your screen in a 1-1 chat or group chat. This entry point was previously governed by the AllowPrivateCalling policy. If this policy is disabled, users are not able to screen share from chat. The option to start a screen share from chat will now be governed by the ScreenSharingMode policy. Further, the ability to "add audio" to a screen share from chat session (if you want to talk to someone while screen sharing) will be governed by a user's AllowPrivateCalling setting. This ensures that users who have AllowPrivateCalling disabled cannot start audio calls via screen share from chat.

Teams and Skype Interoperability

Teams and Skype interoperability will enable collaboration with more partners, customers, and suppliers who rely upon Skype for Consumer (SFC) as their communication app. On either platform, customers will be able to discover users via email search, then chat or call using audio/video. Clients supported include Desktop, Web and Mobile (iOS/Android). Admins will be able to control user access to this feature from The Teams Admin Center.

Reverse Number Lookup (RNL) Enhancements

In the past, the caller name sometimes did not show when they called you. Back in October 2019 we released the feature to make it easier to identify the caller. With the latest enhancements to RNL, the Telco display name will now also show up in your Activity Feed, Call History, and Voicemail as well.

Microsoft Teams Rooms, app version 4.4.41.0 now available

While physical meeting rooms may not be a focal point for many right now, there are still organizations and industries whose essential workers continue to rely on these spaces during this time. We also recognize the vital role Microsoft Teams Rooms will play when organizations return to work. The latest update, app version 4.4.41.0, is now available on the Windows store and is coming to every Teams room over the next few weeks. New features include: Modern authentication support, New application splash screen, Ability to project content to a single display when using a HDMI cable in a dual display configuration, Support for dynamic emergency calling, and more. What’s New: Chat & Collaboration

Templates in Teams

Create a new team even faster with a variety of templates for common team types. Options will include event management, crisis response, hospital ward and bank branch, just to name a few. Templates comes with pre-defined channels, apps, and guidance on how to utilize and customize it. IT professionals can standardize team structures by creating new custom templates for their organization. Templates in Teams will roll out in the next few months and appear automatically. Microsoft Lists in Teams

Microsoft Lists helps you track information and organize work. Lists are simple, smart, and flexible, so you can track issues, assets, routines, contacts, inventory and more using customizable views and smart rules and alerts to keep everyone in sync. Create a new list directly inside Teams or bring in one that already exists in Microsoft 365.

You can create, share, and track list all from within Microsoft Teams.

Bring more people together in group chats and teams

Whether you need to collaborate with others to deliver a big project or work with a large group of people to complete an ad-hoc task, Microsoft Teams now allows you to bring more people together. Group chats will now be able to accommodate up to 250 users and teams can now have up to 10,000 members.

Pop out chats into separate windows

Users can now streamline their workflow and pop out chats into separate windows. This allows people to move more easily between ongoing conversations. This is now generally available.

What’s New: Onboarding your organization to Teams

New Skype for Business to Teams Upgrade Advisor

Our newest Advisor for Teams, the Skype for Business Upgrade plan, has launched within the Microsoft Teams Admin Center. What’s New: Developer, Platform, and App management

Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code Extension for Teams

Developers can use the new Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code Teams extension to quickly build project scaffolding, configure features, create app package manifest and setup hosting, validate app package manifest, and start the app publishing process (for yourself, to your organization’s catalog, or to the Teams app store). Visual Studio Code extension is available in public preview today. Visual Studio extension coming soon!

Bringing low-code bots to Teams, with Power Virtual Agents

We are working with the newest component of the Power Platform – Power Virtual Agents, which is a low-code chatbot platform. New features will make it easier to create and manage low-code chatbots from within Teams and more streamlined for end users to use Power Virtual Agents bots in Teams. These new features are:

Bot Template: FAQ bot template available in GitHub

Single sign-on: Power Virtual Agents bots will be available, removing the need for users to sign in again when using a Power Virtual Agents bot in Teams

Simplified Power Apps and Power Virtual Agents “Add to Teams”

Coming soon, Power Apps makers will be able to click a single “Add to Teams” button in Power Apps, which will push the app to the Teams app store. Similarly, the process of adding low-code bots from Power Virtual Agents will be simplified, so developers can spend more time building and less time deploying.

Enhanced workflow automation with Power Automate + Teams

There are several new Power Automate triggers and actions built specifically for Teams to unlock custom message extensions, allow for automated @mentioning, and provide a customized bot experience. To make the process of building automation even easier, we are also rolling out new business process scenario templates built for Teams. When users create a new flow, they will see these templates when they select the “Create from Template option.”

Improved Power BI sharing to Teams

We have made it even easier to share Power BI reports to Teams – simply select the report to share and click the new “Share to Teams” button in Power BI. You’ll be prompted to select the user or channel to send the report to, which will automatically be posted to the conversation.

Users can now also copy individual charts in a Power BI report, and when they are pasted to a Teams conversation, the chat will include a rich thumbnail preview of the chart, as well as an adaptive card allowing users to take actions on that chart.

What’s New: Education

Change in meeting join experience for our education customers

Today, we allow anyone within an organization to start a Teams meeting, regardless if they are the meeting organizer or not. Moving forward, we will restrict the ability to start a meeting to only those users who have been assigned a policy to create a meeting within their organization. Meeting attendees without the ability to create a meeting will see a pre-join screen indicating that the meeting hasn't started. These individuals will be automatically admitted into the meeting once a user with permissions joins and starts the meeting. For example, where teachers are assigned a policy that enables them to create meetings, but students are not: if a student clicks on a Teams meeting not yet started by a teacher, they will be admitted into the meeting once a teacher has started a meeting.

Keeping distance learning engaging and secure

With many school and universities closed for the foreseeable future, Teams supports faculty, educators, and students to connect, engage, and learn. Here is the latest guidance on how to maximize learning at a distance and keep students safe:

In-line message translation in GCC and GCC High

In-line message translation will ensure that every worker in the team has a voice and facilitate global collaboration. With a simple click, people who speak different languages can fluidly communicate with one another by translating posts in channels and chat. This is now generally available.

What is new in Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams in July 2020

Each year at Microsoft Inspire we have the opportunity to connect with our partner community and share the latest product innovations across Microsoft. It’s also a chance to recognize their extraordinary achievements. This year, as we mark the third anniversaries of both Microsoft 365 and Microsoft Teams, we celebrate the many ways our partners have stepped up to help customers through the pandemic and beyond. (To learn more about some of their outstanding achievements, check out the winners of our Microsoft 2020 Partner of the Year awards.)

Together with our partners, we are also so inspired by the resilience our customers around the world have shown throughout these challenging times. It reinforces our belief that humans have unlimited potential, and that it is our job to enable that potential with technology that supports their creativity and innovation. Today we are announcing features and experiences designed to streamline workflow and automate process right within Teams, ensure great meetings experiences in a hybrid work environment, enable Firstline Workers, protect data and mitigate threats, and more. Making Teams a more powerful hub for teamwork and business process transformation

Teams as a platform

Teams is a platform for work, school, and life. Earlier this month, we unveiled new Teams features that reimagine virtual meetings to make them more engaging, more productive, and ultimately more human. Today, we’re introducing new ways to build low-code solutions, for partners to extend the Teams meeting experience with their apps and services, and for IT to manage Teams meetings.

Build apps and chatbots and visualize data without leaving Teams—Enhancements to the Power Platform experience in Teams make it easier to create, deploy, and manage apps, as well as visualize data, without ever leaving Teams. Apps, flows, and bots built with Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agent can now access data that resides in Microsoft Dataflex, Power Platform’s low code data platform that’s built into Teams. The new Dataflex, Power Apps, Power Automate, and Power Virtual Agents functionalites in Teams are coming soon to select Microsoft 365 and Office 365 users for no additional cost.

In addition, the new Power BI app for Teams will provide a more streamlined experience for accessing Power BI reports in Teams, making it easier to collaborate with data. The app also provides new ways to connect insight into action with sample reports, automation, and easy sharing experiences.

Enrich Teams meeting experiences with 3rd party apps and services—Developers and independent software vendors will now be able to integrate their apps and services with Teams meetings, giving users more options to host collaborative and interactive meetings. Partners will be able to bring their apps directly within the Teams meeting experience. For example, a third-party Agenda app could add a tab with an agenda in the pre-meeting window, a button to open agenda items on the meeting control bar, or a summary file or other type of object in the post-meeting chat window. Polly, Open Agora, Miro, iCIMS, and HireVue will be among the first partners to deliver integrations with Teams meetings, later this year.

Teams Meeting Rooms management

Today, we’re announcing new device management and monitoring options for Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard and Premium to deliver high-quality calling and meeting experiences.

Manage Teams Room devices directly from the admin center—Today, it’s critical to maintain high-fidelity meeting experiences, whether participants are at the worksite, working remotely, or some combination of the two. As a part of Microsoft Teams Rooms Standard, we’ve enhanced management capabilities for Teams meeting devices to make it easier for partners and IT admins to deploy and manage a fleet of devices, including improvements across device set-up, bulk management tasks, and health monitoring.

Or leave Teams Rooms management to our experts—We’re also excited to announce the new Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium offering. With Microsoft Teams Rooms Premium, includes a remote management offering that enables customers to shift the operational responsibility of managing and monitoring Microsoft Teams Rooms to Microsoft. It gives you access to intelligent software, dedicated experts, and enhanced insights. This proactive and real-time management service relies on Microsoft technology experts to handle room system operations remotely, enabling you to free up IT and enhance meeting productivity.

Productivity

Track information and organize your work—A couple of months ago we announced Microsoft Lists, a Microsoft 365 app that helps you track issues, assets, routines, contacts, inventory, and more using customizable views, rules, and comments to keep everyone in sync. Microsoft Lists Home (web app) is beginning to rollout with eight ready-made templates. It will also be available in Microsoft Teams next month along with three additional industry templates. A Lists mobile app for iOS is expected later this year.

Firstline Worker experiences

Now more than ever, organizations need tools for Firstline Workers to connect with the broader team and access digitized processes to keep the business moving forward. This month, we’re releasing updates to help Firstline Workers refocus their efforts through improved virtual engagement, digital tools to augment physical interactions and improve operations.

Customers like Alcoa Corporation are using Teams to connect their Firstline Workers at its facility in Iceland. Using Shifts in Teams, this company’s Icelandic employees were able to rapidly respond to changes needed to maintain business continuity.

Easily manage schedules and start your shift from anywhere—Coming later this year, Shift schedule assistance will make it easier for managers to create team schedules while alerting them to potential schedule conflicts so they can be avoided. And Time Clock is now available for Teams on the web and in the desktop app, enabling Firstline Workers to clock in and clock out wherever they are, whether now working remote or at the job location, all with the geofencing capabilities.

Make vital messages and live events more discoverable—Having a direct line of communication with your Firstline Workers during uncertain times is critical to ensuring they feel included, engaged, and informed. We’ve added Yammer Communities to the Microsoft Teams mobile apps, so employees can access critical messages, safety alerts, and live events in one place.

Enable Firstline Workers to communicate safely and efficiently—Microsoft Teams Walkie Talkie, now in public preview, is a new push-to-talk experience that turns employee or company-owned Android devices into walkie-talkies for instant and secure voice communication over the cloud using cellular network or WiFi. Key launch partners include BlueParrott with newly announced C300-XT MSand B450-XT MS wireless headsets, Klein Electronics with updated models of their Triumph and Valor wired headsets, as well as Samsung, which recently unveiled the Galaxy XCover Pro.

Also now in public preview, Microsoft Teams on RealWear provides Firstline Workers with hands-free access to calls, chats, and live remote collaboration all through integration with HMT-1 and intrinsically safe HMT-1Z1.

Manage your Firstline Workforce more easily— Staying on top of employees clocking in and out and making edits to shifts is critical to ensuring smooth and compliant operations. Now generally available, Firstline Worker and manager policy packages for Teams provides IT administrators with predefined policies and policy settings tailored for their entire Firstline Workforce. Policy packages simplify, centralize, and help provide consistency when managing policies for Firstline Workers and managers across your organization. Audit logs for Shifts, also now generally available, provide IT admins, a unified view, and search functionality to help monitor and keep track of activities.

Protecting data and mitigating insider threats

The shift to hybrid work models has increased the need for organizations to re-evaluate their security and risk management practices. With employees accessing corporate data on home computers or sharing and collaborating in new ways, organizations could be at greater risk for data leaks or other risks. This month we’re releasing new solutions and features to better protect your devices and users, mitigate insider threats, and help ensure seamless and secure deployments. Alym Rayani shares more details in today’s Security blog, but here’s a quick overview of what’s new:

Extend data loss prevention to the endpoint—We’re excited to announce the public preview of the new Endpoint Data Loss Prevention (DLP), which extends data loss prevention to devices. Building on Microsoft Information Protection, Endpoint DLP extends the existing DLP capabilities in Microsoft 365 to your devices, helping you to meet compliance requirements and protect sensitive information.

Quickly identify, detect, and act on insider threats—Earlier this year, we announced the general availability of our toolset for managing insider threats and code of conduct policy violations in your organization. Today, we’re significantly expanding the quality of signals that Insider Risk Management and Communication Compliance in Microsoft 365 reason over to intelligently flag potentially risky behavior. We’re also adding new policy templates to customize thresholds to better meet organizational needs, and we’re enabling more effective remediation workflows to push alerts to other systems like Microsoft Azure Sentinel.

Bring more security signals to Azure Sentinel—Using data sources within Microsoft Azure Sentinel, you can build a more complete picture of the threats that your organization faces, conduct deep threat hunts across your environment, and use the power of automation and orchestration in the cloud to help free up your security analysts to focus on their highest-value tasks. Today, we’re announcing several new third-party connectors across Microsoft Azure Sentinel to simplify getting security insights across many leading solutions and partners, including networks, firewalls, endpoint protection and vulnerability management.

Discovering people and information more easily

New updates to Microsoft 365 make it easier than ever to find the information and people you’re looking for.

Connect and engage your workforce with the new Yammer—With the newly designed Yammer, now generally available, you can connect your entire organization. With a reimagined user experience for both web and mobile, the new Yammer is loaded with features and integrations that power communities, engagement, and knowledge across Microsoft 365.

Make finding people easier with enriched profile cards—Finding the right people in a timely manner isn’t always easy. Sometimes you’re looking for more than just a name and face, maybe it’s a skill, location, or something else. Now, you can configure your tenant settings through the Microsoft Graph to enrich an individual’s profile card by adding attributes from Azure Active Directory—including their alias, employee ID, or a custom property. This feature is now available. Follow our documentation to get started.

Simplify your print infrastructure with a cloud-based print solution—Universal Print, a cloud-based print infrastructure that creates a simple, secure print experience for Microsoft 365 customers, is now in public preview. With Universal Print, organizations no longer need to maintain on-premises print servers or install printer drivers, reducing the time and effort needed by IT to maintain the print environment. And end-users get a straightforward print experience that makes it easy to discover and print to nearby printers without the hassle of installing drivers. The service is currently rolling out in public preview.

Streamlining app development

Having the right set of tools and workflows available for building apps is important to our developers. We’re excited to announce some new tools, updates and capabilities to streamline app development.

Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code extension (preview)

With the new Visual Studio and Visual Studio Code extensions, you can use the power of these tools to build your Teams app quickly, with a simple interface that enables you to:

New Power Platform + Teams enhancements

We’re excited to introduce several new features enhancing the Power Platform + Teams integrations that are either available or coming soon. These features enable you to build low-code/no-code experiences with custom apps, workflows, bots, and dashboards for your team and customers.

Simplified Power Apps and Power Virtual Agents Add to Teams button, streamlining the addition of custom solutions to the Teams app store.

Enhanced workflow automation with Power Automate + Teams with new triggers and actions built specifically for Teams to unlock custom message extensions, allow for automated @mentioning, and provide a customized bot experience. New business process scenario templates will also be rolled out to jump start automation development.

Improved Power BI sharing to Teams with a new Share to Teams button in Power BI to easily share Power BI reports. App Studio Update (v1.4.0)

App Studio for Microsoft Teams makes it easy to start creating or integrating your own Teams apps by streamlining the creation of the manifest and package for your app. With the latest update (v1.4.0), we’ve built some enhancements, including:

Support for app manifest schema 1.6.

An Advanced section in app details to easily support advanced features.

An app package validation tool to run tests that extend outside the basic schema validation. This is great for those looking to publish to Partner Center for pre-validation or having issues sideloading their app.

Better error handling via a bot framework connection with user guidance on how to perform the same actions in the bot framework web portal.

24 new granular permissions for the Teams Microsoft Graph APIs

These new APIs are available on the Microsoft Graph v1.0 endpoint and will give you more flexibility and granularity for app data access authorization. With granular permissions, developers and admins can now narrow the app’s access and scope to a specific team’s set of data, as opposed to all team data.

Mobile device capability for apps

Coming soon this year, you’ll be able to extend your app’s capabilities by connecting to native mobile device features, such as camera, location, and microphone. Seamlessly enable scenarios, such as having your bot support and manage expense reporting utilizing the mobile device’s camera.

New Microsoft Graph APIs in beta for subscribing to notifications for new app messages – in beta

Using the Microsoft Graph API, we’ve provided you some new APIs in beta that will provide you the ability to create subscriptions for different event types, such as new/edited/deleted messages, replies, reactions, as well as to all or specific channels and chat threads – allowing your apps to refresh when new content is available. These are great for development of data loss prevention (DLP) and safety apps. For more information about these subscription APIs that are in beta, see Create subscription (beta).

Activity feed notifications for apps – coming soon to beta

The new activity feed notifications via the Microsoft Graph API gives you a new and simpler way to send app notifications to users across devices. You’ll enjoy the ability to customize and control the notification experience – everything from the notification structure, to what is surfaced to the user after they click the notification.

New Microsoft Graph APIs in v1.0 – coming soon

We have some new Microsoft Graph APIs for Teams coming to the v1.0 endpoint that you’ll be able to explore soon.

Send channel messages API allows you to send channel messages and replies as well as include attachments.

primaryChannel API allows you to access to data without making assumptions about naming.

filesFolder API allows you to find the SharePoint folder for a channel without assuming the folder has the same name as the channel.

Shifts API enables a scheduling module in Teams to enable you to integrate existing or custom workforce management systems for scenarios such as auto-approvals for shift requests.

Seamless end-to-end app lifecycle experience

Building an app is just the beginning of the journey for app developers. A smooth process with business decision makers and IT admins is an essential part of that journey. We’re excited to announce that, coming soon, developers and admins will enjoy a streamlined custom app submission process and enhanced app management capabilities within the Teams Admin Center – providing a connected experience through the development, publishing and end user discovery process.

Streamlined app submission workflows

You will soon be able to submit Teams apps through any of these clients and trusted sources (App Studio, Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, Power Apps, SharePoint Framework) via our App Submission Microsoft Graph API – streamlining the process of submitting apps directly to the Teams Admin Center for IT admins to review and approve.

New app management capabilities within the Teams Admin Center

Microsoft Teams provides a robust set of controls to help administrators confidently enable and manage apps in their Teams environment. We’re excited to announce several new capabilities that will soon be added to our existing controls to manage Teams apps.

The new Manage Apps view in the Microsoft Teams Admin Center will show all apps in your tenants – including app certification, approval status, and licensing status.

A new third party subscription purchase experience will enable IT admins to view and purchase subscriptions associated with the 3rd party Teams apps. Admins can purchase licenses and later pin the app to targeted employees right from within the Teams Admin Portal.

IT admins can improve app discoverability and adoption by creating custom templates for users to choose from when creating a team. Templates can include pre-defined channels, tabs, and apps so users can hit the ground running in Teams. By packaging relevant apps inside templates, IT admins can effectively surface them to the right members of the organization. Templates in Teams will be available in the next few months.

Admins will be able to grant consent to Microsoft Graph API permissions on behalf of the entire tenant for the permissions an app is requesting, such as reading information stored in a team or sending an email on behalf of users. They will also be able to see granular permissions and provide resource-specific consent with the ability to install an app to a specific team.

Drive a deeper user engagement

Take advantage of Azure Active Directory Single Sign-On (SSO) to eliminate need for re-signing into Teams apps

End users will soon be able to enjoy the benefits of Azure Active Directory Single Sign-On (SSO) for supported Teams apps on both desktop and mobile. After they’re signed into Teams, users won’t have to sign in again on apps that integrate with single sign-on for both desktop and mobile. Developers will also enjoy a simplified authentication process through a single API call. We’ll roll out with tabs in general availability soon, followed by bots later this year.

Azure Active Directory Conditional Access – coming soon

This capability will enable end users to run apps and tabs even if their IT admin has set up conditional access policies requiring the use of a trusted device. Website tabs on Windows that use Azure AD will automatically sign you in and support device-specific conditional access policies.

Resource-Specific Consent (RSC) – coming soon to preview

This capability will empower Team owners to install an app for their specific team and restrict the app’s scope and access to data to only that one team. This allows team owners to make decisions versus needing the global IT admin to provision access.

Experience attempting to access an app without RSC to having RSC enabled

Pop-out apps, channel tabs, and chat tabs – coming later this year

Coming soon this year, end users will be able to ‘pop-out’ personal apps and tabs* (channels and chats). Users will be able to open separate windows for their apps so they can work while easily accessing their team chats to continue to collaborate. Simply right-click on an app to see the option to pop out or visit a tab and find the pop-out icon in the top right.

*Not all tabs supported at time of launch

More powerful cards inside bots and connectors in Teams

Develop a richer and more customizable experience using Adaptive Cards 1.2 in Teams on desktop and mobile. Highly requested features such as @mentions support within cards, allow the ability to direct a user’s attention to cards that are relevant to them – providing you an enhanced notification and engagement capability for your app. RichText Blocks allow you greater flexibility in designing the look and feel of the cards. These are available in general availability and ready for you to explore today.

Messaging actions for mobile – coming soon

We are excited to announce that message action support for mobile will be coming soon to preview. Message actions can be triggered directly from a message and can be used to enable scenarios such as creating tasks or work items following a discussion within a chat or channel.

Personal apps available on mobile – coming soon for preview

Personal apps are Teams applications focusing on interactions with a single user, such as 1:1 Conversational bots or personal tabs. These types of apps are already available for desktop and web and will be available for mobile – coming soon for preview.
