okay, so it does sound like I have a bios problem.
the mobo, and in fact the whole store-built pc, is still under warranty.

I don't know if this makes a difference.
I set the Timeout at 30 (sec) when I had dual boot setup. After removing the dual boot, I have not changed the Timeout setting.
I don't find my boot time slow. But then, it depends on how one perceives what is "fast" and what is "slow".

Just a curious question..................other than slower startup time, what would be the potential danger if the startup time is beyond the alleged " norm ", say by a couple of seconds ?

well in my case, I guess it is a matter of damage control. I probably have a defective bios chip in my mobo, but on the other hand, the pc works for most practical purposes. So I am wondering whether it is worth the bother to take it back to the store and wait X-number of business days and then go pick it up again -- which means working on a spare laptop all the while. But if the chip is showing signs of impending failure, I might as well deal with the problem already.

My machine is set to 30 seconds timeout.
Is there any danger in setting this to high or to low?
    Thanks!

I haven't had any problem with 0 seconds.

  11. That is what mine is also reading at and up to now no trouble at all in fact loads really fast as you can see by my other posts also since yesterdays update seems to boot up even faster.
I press button logo comes up does two parts of circle then circle for windows 10 appears
Again only part turns before lock screen appears
    log on with password
Then screen comes up and then message good to go and I am in windows mail app
    Reading my e-mails
So I for one wont set a time out

    what is normal bios time?

On a Lenovo ThinkPad T430 BIOS time:

For boot time, I use the event viewer:

what is normal bios time? [IMG]

    You can find this at:

    Event Viewer\Application and Services Logs\Microsoft\Windows\Diagnostics\Performance\Operational

Divide the milliseconds by a 1,000 to get the value to seconds, in the image above it is ~19 seconds.

I set my value to 3 because it would not accept anything lower.
After reboot I see windows does come up faster once I reach the login screen.
    Thanks much!

I've noticed that too yes, fortunately I had already set it to 0 when I still had Windows 8.1 *Smile
