What is the risk of updating Macrium & it fail to restore prev image?

    Running: Windows 10 Pro - Version 2004

Hi Everyone! I want to update my registered Macrium Reflect every time it tells me it's available, but I get nervous that it will fail to work with my previously created Macrium Reflect image (of an 8TB drive that I have imaged, a couple versions ago) - has this happened in the past with Macrium Reflect updates? Am I being worried unnecessarily? What is the real chance of this happening?

    :)

Restoring Windows 10 Image using Macrium Reflect

In addition to the above. Here's my suggestion in step by step.
I assume you have Macrium Installed in your current HD and already made a backup copy.
    1. Connect your new HD via USB port and boot up.
    2. Run Macrium, click on Restore tab then select the Backup Image that you made to restore
    3. click on "select a different target disk" then select your new HD as destination

    4. Proceed to restore then Shutdown and disconnect the old HD and replace with the new HD
    5. Boot up with your new HD.

    Macrium restore failed: Error 100

Like dalchina, I can find no reference to error 100.

But looking at your screenshots, it is not the restore as such that's failing. It is the automatic restore that's failing to find the marker file or the image to restore. As you say, it seems to think the source and destination are the same.

I'd try booting from a Macrium rescue usb to attempt the restore, thereby side-stepping the errors seen when attempting to start the restore from within Windows.

    Macrium: trial restore?

    1. As far as I know, you can't "restore" a macrium image to a folder. There are ways of copying the contents of an image file to a folder - but that is not what you are trying to test.

    2. Most imaging programs will have detailed instructions with screenshots on their site showing how to restore a partition image.

I would be surprised if they bothered showing how to do the same steps as a test.
