Windows 10: What is Watch Thread?

I haven't seen an official answer in any prior forum posts so I'm asking anew.


What is Watch Thread?


It is NOT trademarked therefore I assume BAD.


I am aware it has absolutely nothing to do with Mozilla Firefox.


I lost access to nearly my entire computer - screen froze and unfroze, external mouse glitched across the screen, Windows10 repeatedly crashed, task manager showed something eating Disk 0 C D Drive - yet nothing appeared in task manager to account for the loss of function and the extremely high bar.


Chrome was at 3000 MB memory instead of the usual 640 MB but the % of memory used was only in the 70s, not 100%. Nothing was adding up. The logic of task manager failed.


I attempted to restart my computer. It stated that Watch Thread was stopping my computer from restarting. B-I-N-G-O! A hidden assault. I chose to restart anyway which worked wonders. For now.


I have found no such program, no hidden files, no existence of anything with this name.


I now believe Watch Thread attempted a direct attack on my computer via the internet, from no particular webpage, but from Chrome itself.


I have malwarebytes which did NOT recognize the attack. I have Norton as well because it's overall protection is better but malwarebytes seems to instantly catch malware attempts from Chrome that Norton fails to quickly address and it also did NOT respond.


I do not believe the program is on my computer unless it's hidden within Windows10 itself.


I am debating whether the program is directly attached to Chrome or using Chrome as an access point to attack. Therefore I question if uninstalling Chrome would serve no purpose. That will however be my next step as I have had a malware issue where it attached to the Chrome installation download and was embedded in the program itself. That time, I scoured the Chrome folders and found multiple unusual files. Uninstalling and reinstalling solved the prior attack BUT THAT WAS WITHIN A MONTH of downloading Chrome. This time around I have had Chrome for some time with no issues.


It's a new year, and that means you may have new information! So I wanted to ask the community before continuing my investigation. Thank you.

ScienceMark thread (with score list)

BTW ... the scores ranking is placed in this thread via periodic new posts. sort of different than other bench threads, where the scores are usually the very first post in the thread and updates are simply always made to that first post.

as stated above, PT is the owner of the thread and he updates at minimum, once a day if not more.

you can step back through this thread to see the last scores listing ... a day or two ago.

Suggestion: New sticky thread

Suggest adding thread with current/newly released versions of GPU-Z.
Other programs have such threads in their forums.

Thread could have current GPU-Z version number listed in its title+release date of it.
