  2. OneDrive keeps changing my default documents path

    Hi Stiegl1

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re having trouble with OneDrive. It can be frustrating when your settings are changed without your consent. Just a heads up that in regards to this kind of issue, our option is limited and we can only perform basic troubleshooting steps.

Here are some steps you can take to prevent OneDrive from changing your default documents path:

    1. Unlink OneDrive and relink OneDrive: You can unlink OneDrive from your device to prevent it from storing your files in the cloud. This will not delete your files or data. Here’s how you can do it:
      • Select the OneDrive cloud in your notification area to show the OneDrive pop-up.

      • Go to the Account tab.
      • Select the OneDrive Help and Settings icon then select Settings

Close OneDrive and follow the steps:
      • Press the Windows key + R to open the Run dialog.
      • Enter the path %localappdata%\Microsoft\OneDrive\settings and select OK.
      • Delete the PreSignInSettingsConfig.json file.
      • Press the Windows key and type OneDrive.
      • Select the OneDrive app and sign in when prompted.

    2. To prevent OneDrive from syncing your personal files, you can try the following steps:
      • Right-click on the OneDrive icon in the system tray and select "Settings".
      • Go to the "Account" tab and click on "Choose folders".
      • Uncheck the folders that you do not want to sync to OneDrive, such as Documents, Downloads, and Pictures.
      • Click "OK" to save the changes.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have other questions.

  3. OneDrive translating paths to Hebrew. (Windows 11)

Hi, I’m Nicole, I’ll be happy to help you out today.

This might be caused by a language setting that is affecting how the path is displayed.

One way to fix this issue is to change the name of the desktop folder in OneDrive to "Desktop" instead of hebrew. Here's how you can do that:

Open the OneDrive website and sign in with your account.

Go to the folder where your desktop is saved.

Right-click on the "hebrew word" folder and select "Rename".

Change the name to "Desktop" and press Enter.

Once you have renamed the folder, try copying the path again and see if the issue persists. If it does, try changing the language settings in Windows to see if that fixes the problem.

To change the language settings in Windows, follow these steps:

Open the Settings app by pressing Windows + I.

    Click on "Time & Language".

Click on "Language" in the left-hand menu.

Select "English (United States)" from the list of languages and click "Set as default".

    Restart your PC.

Once you have changed the language settings, try copying the path again and see if the issue is resolved.

    Regards

What is wrong with this way to change OneDrive Folder to physical path

Making PC desktop path native to onedrive folder?

Hi, I am using Microsoft office 365 as part of my institution package. Is it possible for the PC desktop files to natively display a folder from the onedrive? I want to make all common C: locations to onedrive locations. So if anything happens, I always have everything sync online?

Previously I synced the locations so from "C:\user\username" to other places on the PC. Previously, I use syncback to syncfolders to Onedrive and other HD's. However, this step is just redundant. When you sync onedrive to the PC, you still need to specify a place on the PC. So from "C:\user\username\ onedrive". Technically, Onedrive still uses a physical place on the PC to store files.
So what I did is that I specify which part of the onedrive to replace "My Documents", "My Pictures", "Downloads" folder in the quick access. I am having a problem specifying or replacing the Desktop folder. Is it possible to change my native desktop to display directly the desktop on the onedrive online? The only problem I see is application shortcuts. You cannot specify a shortcut to appear on the onedrive folder. Aside from that, I get full autosave function of MS files which is connected to Onedrive. If it is not possible to replace the desktop file, I will still use the same solution with syncback.

    Thanks for the suggestions.
