There weren't enough programs to require a Start Menu.

"We didn't need no stinking menu," we had program groups located in a box like structure. . .*Thumbs

  3. I've got multiple different operating systems on VMs:
    • W8.1 Enterprise (64 bit) (probably dead now)
    • Multiple W7 (64 bit) VMs with software for my TAFE courses (e.g. XAMP, VS Pro, Chrome, Opera, etc.)
    • W7 (32 bit)
    • XP (32 bit) with old games
    • Ubuntu 10
    • Linux Mint 15, 16, 17
    • Fedora 14,15
    • CentOS 6
    • Deepin
    • Peppermint
    • OpenSUSE 12
I have blank W7 and XP VMs, which I use to create new VMs as required.

  5. Hi Guys,

Well I would be running Ubuntu along with Windows 8 if I could get it to work.

I spent a day last week trying to set up a Virtual Machine to do it, but for some reason I couldn't get it to work.

When I searched I found a lot of other people having similar issues with VM.

What software do people recommend to set up a virtual machine on a computer.

I'm going to try again next week, after our company leaves.
I'm thinking about VMware Player for the next try.

I've never done this before, so it's all new to me.

Right now I have VMware set up in my Win8.1 OS and in that I have Win7 Pro installed.
I plan to use that for a fast test of Win9(Threshold) when that comes out in late September.

  9. I have Windows 8.1 Evaluation Edtion (Enterprise), and I REALLY like it so far.

I run it in VM Ware, because I can't natively run the x64 build I have on my HP xw8200. Besides, I still prefer Vista x64 Ultimate SP2, and I'm going to run it until support runs out.

Windows 8.1 Pro, to be able to screen record all processes, (restarts, sign out, etc.), but I'd rather dual boot.

I have 5 Linux systems and Windows 8.1 running under VMware Player. And they are on an external SSD. That way I have to maintain only 1 set of operating systems as I move between different PCs - Very handy.

With USB3 or eSata there is hardly any performance degradation running from the external SSD. USB2 is slow for booting and shutdown but OK for normal operation. From USB3, my Windows 8.1 boots in 26 seconds as shown in Event 100 of the event viewer. The Linux distros are faster. Example.

  15. I was updating an "empty" XP VM yesterday.
It takes ~15 seconds to boot (my installed XP OS takes at least 45 seconds to boot)! *Shock

My other XP VM with my standard software and old games installed takes ~60 seconds.

My W7 VMs take ~90 seconds to ~150 seconds to boot. *Sad

All of those VMs are on a external HDD (USB 3).
