  1. What options is there for disabling/removing Windows Mail after deployment of a new PC

Not sure where to put this question but I have about 20 or so machines spread across various sites that I need to remove or disable Windows Mail.

We are running Windows 10 1709 and 1803. all pro and x64

We are currently considering a login script that runs when a user logs in that runs a powershell script that run:
    Get-AppxPackage Microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps | Remove-AppxPackage

We can get this work but ideally we wanted to run a command once on those 20 machines and not having to worry about the apps coming back.

We thought of running a script as SYSTEM on those machine but the below commands does not work

    Get-AppxPackage -AllUsers Microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps | Remove-AppxPackage
    Get-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online | where-object {$_.PackageName -like "Microsoft.windowscommunicationsapps*"} | Remove-AppxProvisionedPackage -Online

So my question really is, what is the best way of doing this after we have already deployed those machines around to various sites?

    :)

Mail app will not open on 10041.

    Hello Adam,

This is the suggested solution below if you haven't already tried it. What options is there for disabling/removing Windows Mail after deployment of a new PC :)

In this Windows 10 build 10041, the Mail, Calendar, and People apps may be broken due to a licensing issue with the Store Beta. To get these apps working again, you need to follow these steps:

    • Open powershell as administrator
    • Run the command Get-appxprovisionedpackage –online | where-object {$_.packagename –like “*windowscommunicationsapps*”} | remove-appxprovisionedpackage –online
    • Re-install Mail, People and Calendar from the Store (green tile)

    Windows 10 Tweaks

Pressing “Windows+Pause Break” (it’s up there next to scroll lock) opens the “System” Window.

Windows 10: In the new version of Windows, Explorer has a section called Quick Access. This includes your frequent folders and recent files. Explorer defaults to opening this page when you open a new window. If you’d rather open the usual This PC, with links to your drives and library folders, follow these steps:

    • Open a new Explorer window.
    • Click View in the ribbon.
    • Click Options.
    • Under General, next to “Open File Explorer to:” choose “This PC.”
    • Click OK

DEPLOYMENT FAILED WITH HRESULT:0X80073CF6. PACKAGE COULD NOT BE REGISTERED. UNABLE TO REMOVE THE MAIL AND CALENDER APP.

    Hi Singh,

Thank you for your response with the current update on the issue.

I suggest you to follow the steps below to update Mail app from Windows Store and also try to disable the third party antivirus from the computer. Check if it helps.

Step 1: I suggest you to try to update Mail app from Windows Store and check if it helps.

Step 2: I suggest you to temporarily disable the antivirus and check if it helps.

    Disable Anti virus:

NOTE: Antivirus software can help protect your computer against viruses and other security threats. In most cases, you shouldn't disable your antivirus software. If you have to temporarily disable it
to install other software, you should re-enable it as soon as you're done. If you're connected to the Internet or a network while your antivirus software is disabled, your computer is vulnerable to attacks.

Please get back to us with an update on issue with Windows mail app, we will be happy to help.

    Thank you.
