I haven't seen anything about OEM's not qualifying. If MS excludes OEM's from upgrading to Windows 10 it will take them longer to reach their coal of 10 billion computers running Windows 10.

I'm with Jeff (BunnyJ). Working with photos will require more resources, so Pro would be the way I'd go. Also, if I read it correctly, a Pro version will receive a Pro version so you should be good to go.

According to how much RAM you have, if it were me, I'd at least double it. Although my Windows 8.1 machine has 8 Gigs of RAM, I want to upgrade to Pro, so if it's possible, I'll also upgrade my RAM to double.

Edit: Whoops! I should learn to read closer . . . 16 GB RAM is probably enough. *Smile

Gary, I'd guess that there are a few gazillion more OEMS out here than custom built and upgrades via Retail versions combined. If OEMs were left out, Microsoft wouldn't have a chance in H E double toothpick to get Windows 10 on every PC out here. There will still be holdouts, but not that many.

I'm wondering if by "OEMs" he means Dell, HP, etc? Not a consumer with an OEM install. In that case, the OEMs (Dell HP ETC) will just swap 8.1 for 10 if they so desire. They won't upgrade the currently installed OS. They get a different deal from Microsoft.

I would think, if Windows 8.1 is already installed, they could do the free upgrade online, or just leave it for whoever buys the PC. My guess is they'll leave it be if it already has a Windows 8.1 COA sticker on it. Then tell the owner they can upgrade for free if they want, maybe even offer to do it for them. Just guessing of course.

  9. There is no turning in a license. If you own a license retail or OEM of any editions of Windows 7 or Windows 8/8.1 then you are eligible for an upgrade to WIndows 10. Currently the only thing MS has talked about with Windows 10 is upgrades. They haven't mentioned new installs. You won't have to buy a Windows 10 license unless you have a PC with no OS (that includes Linux *Smile, XP or Vista.

That depends on how one looks at it. If you use your key from your old OS to upgrade you will not be able to legally run both OS's. Hopefully MS will allow anyone who doesn't like Windows 10 to go back to their old OS.
