OK that seems to work. I can remember playing with that setting but it didn't work for what I wanted at the time. I was trying to pin some websites to my Start Screen but they all opened in the Metro IE even with that option checked. Looks like misunderstood what it was for and what it does.

Oh, and FFS (ex-squeeze the French) dump this STUPID idea of tying Flash in with IE. What an effing DUMB!!!! idea. At least a quarter of my sites don't work properly, and it's a dead cert that it's behind RealPlayer's sudden inability to download most YouTube clips. And I keep getting 'Your Flash needs updating' ALL the time. NOT happy, Jan!!!

After doing a clean install, the possibility to migrate users/applications/settings from a previous version of Windows. Just like Apple OS X!

    That would be genius!!!!! *Wink

You can already do some of that with the sync feature. If your logged in with a Windows Live ID you can sync your wallpaper, colors, Metro apps and tile layout etc. After a clean install when you log back in with the same live ID those settings can be synced to that PC.

  6. Can't be done in Windows when doing a clean install. Especially when going up one OS version. 8 to 8.1 was a kernel change thus its a new OS.

supertweaker you might be on the right track.
Kind of like a Windows 7 Super Duper SP-2 but call it Windows 9.
That would allows the world to have a improved great operating system and Microsoft to sell a new operating system.
Keep Windows 8.xxx for those that want it for the finger print screens.
Who ever is the next Micorosoft C.E.O. is going to have some huge decisions to make. Admitting that Microsoft didn't understand the market place when Windows 8 was released will be difficult.
    How about a Windows 8/TP. (Tablet/Phone) and Windows 9.
That should cover the market place.

I am afraid that MS will be so caught up in their 'strategic direction' that they will fall over their own underwear and not be able to make simple, rational decisions.

I have seen that in my own computer carrer. The strategists have no clue what a customer wants and they really do not care either. If you have such a dominent market position, you call the shots.

Bundled (included) software is important. I like Windows Media Player, that good bundled software. Don't like IE though and would prefer to not to have. IE is only good for downloading Firefox. Include a free basic office suite. Include a mail client. And so on...

Linux got it right in this regard. My opinion.

Although a company may introduce a product, the consumers or enterprise may not buy it. Ultimately consumers/enterprise vote in the marketplace. MS will chase markets they think they will make profit just as any other company.

The general public consumers went mobile. It seems they don't want to sit behind a desktop PC anymore. The desktop PC market has more or less flat lined. I think we can thank Apple with iStuff and Google with Android gadgets for that. That's the market they created and chased. It would be silly to think MS wouldn't follow suit.

On the other hand, MS may be thinking enterprise will go this route: http://blogs.technet.com/b/microsoft...z&country=zUSz

  13. What would you like to see in Window 9?

I would like to see a Wizard to check for problems, find them, & automatically fix them.

With the large hard drives available today Microsoft could add a partition with the needed stuff to do this.
If the partition lacked anything it needed to fix a problem, it could go online & download it.

If the computer won't boot, an option to use the Wizard would appear on the screen.
    That would be nice.

If Microsoft did provide something like this, the price of an operating system would probably go up.(a lot)

This is probably not a matter of price but a matter of doability. A totally self healing OS would really be nice. For some of the standard errors like 'bootmgr missing' that is probably doable. But I doubt that a cure can be automated for all problems.
