  1. What You’ll Lose When You Upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 10

Currently I dual-boot - Win7 Pro 64-bit (OEM) on one drive and WinXP Pro on another drive (using EasyBCD)
I have a spare drive and what I was planning on doing was clone my Win7 to it and then do a free Win10 upgrade on that cloned drive.
I would "test out" Win10 to see if I liked it while still using the Win7 on the other drive.
Because the cloned Win7 would have its license upgraded to a Win10 license, would I have any problems using the Win7 on the original drive?

  5. Main ones I see mentioned are Kodi & Media Portal

I use Media Portal with Freeview, not the easiest to setup, but they do have a good installation guide, once setup it is very nice to use

Briefly looked at Kodi, it seems easier to setup, but didn't try integrating tv recording into it

  6. thanks Paul for your response I think I will install w10 0n my main machine and give the media portal a bash at the weekend
I will of course make an image of w7 first *chuckle I found media centre so easy too setup and use never gave me any problems well only a few to beable to setup recordings in advance and know it will just get on and do it was great I still think Microsoft have done the wrong thing to exclude it a lot of people use it contrary too what Microsoft say no alternative will be no upgrade for quite a few I suspect and too leve out dvd as well is just mental (rant over) *Rolleyes

Honestly, I have tried most, KODI, Media Portal, NextPVR and none really stack up against WMC. Most are difficult to setup, and produce a less than great score. My problem is I have an extensive Video Library and none support a .vob format well.

Emby formerly MediaBrowser has some promising works. Their Library structure rivals most, is easy to setup and the LiveTV works well, except their LiveTV media guide is less than perfect, you might try them.

Silicondust makers of HD HomeRun Prime has HomeRun View for watching and because of demand just announced a kick starter program, to develop a DVR setup somewhat like WMC. Details are vague, but hopeful, we will see what is produced with this.

We use WMC exclusively and daily so I won't be updating to Windows 10, WMC was really the only reason we used Windows. Even at that I just don't feel Windows 10 is a quality product, and has removed to much of prior versions tools. But that is just my opinion. I am completely content with my Windows 7, 8, 8.1 setups.

    Hi there

Not an answer to your question - but possible a help with TV / Radio recording from the BBC -- download the get_iplayer app -- this will obtain BBC TV and Radio programs (including HD quality, optionally with subtitles too) from the BBC TV and Radio channels - saves you having to record them. (Also removes DRM so you can keep the downloaded programs. Great for Music from the BBC radio stations too.

    https://squarepenguin.co.uk/wiki/rel...es/release293/

The advantage of this is you can download BBC TV / Radio and the play it with VLC or any media streamer without needing any TV tuner hardware.

PLEX is a good Free media server. Mezzmo is another good one (but is PAID software, PLEX is FREE). So long as your Internet connection is around 2Mb/s (fairly standard these days) you should be able to stream to remote TV's etc.

IMO things like hardware TV tuners on computers aren't really necessary any more. An Amazon TV stick (around 40 EUR) converts a bog standard TV into a "Smart" TV as well -- so long as the TV has a USB connection. With the Amazon TV stick you can play your remote files on the TV without needing the TV to be DLNA compliant (i.e you don't need a "Smart TV").

Just my take on this stuff.

    Cheers

What happens if a user upgrades to Windows 10, and decide they hate it and want to go back to using Windows 7 or 8.1? I feel like that might be an important issue .

They simply restore the image they took before installing win 10! Oh, they didn't do one? Too bad - they will soon learn to live with/love win 10. After all, it has more future in it than win 7/8.

https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/4...ous-build.html This is how to do that. But not sure if it will be available after the RTM or GA if that is what you are thinking about.
