  1. What’s new in the Windows 10 Creators Update

After the "Creators Update", I couldn't get my screen to fill the available Monitor space. Had 2 inches of blackness on all 4 sides of screen. Did some Google searches and found that the only way to accomplish this was via a Registry hack. Followed the instructions and all is good now.

But it's strange that a Windows Update/Upgrade would limit one's ability to use Windows 10 settings for adjusting screen size.

  2. Thanks CmmTch. Settings > System > Apps and Features worked. Seems odd that you get a different list going that way then opening "Programs and Features". I would have thought apps and programs were the same thing, but not to MS.

One person on another site had only a black screen. A few people reports issues with video. It is weird that you could not resize the screen but glad you were able to get it fixed. I was fortunate here and the screen size was fine. I got a black screen this morning but then it came up but that could be one of the cats messing around.

I don't know if anyone saw this but computer systems mfg before 2013 will not get the creator's update.

I don't know where you heard that but it's complete nonsense.

It may well be they get rolled out later but anybody can manually update.

Programs and Features is legacy coding that only lists Win32 programs. The new Apps and Features lists UWP apps as well.

Works fine on my 2006 MacBook.

I got that from Microsoft. They were talking about the regular update and since my own computer was destroyed by a Microsoft update, I sure don't need that again and neither does anyone else. If my current computer was mfg before 2013, I would check the manufacturers website to make sure it was compatible.

Correct. My oldest computer is 2009 (kids computer) and I updated to the Creators update with no issues at all.

How does that translate to not getting CU?

Sure if the compatibility check decides it is nit, it may not update but there are loads of Vista/7 era pcs that are being updated.

And some that are not! Black screens, etc. and other issues have been reported. If you asked me before Windows 10 what was the worst OS I ever used it would have been ME. I've used them all and I started in computers before they had a screen to look at. The only OS I refused to buy was Windows 8 but I got stuck using it in the field anyway. I'm a bit behind these days. I hadn't thought about using Macrium in years. Why? Because Windows 7 was rock solid almost from the beginning. I beta tested it with glee. I cannot say the same for Windows 10 which was forced onto my old computer without my consent. Build 1511 literally destroyed it. Did you know that that there is a class action suit against Microsoft in Indiana for their behavior? You may be a Pro on this list but I am a computer veteran who started in 1964. My only goal here was to make sure I did due diligence myself and to help others avoid what happened to me.

That's what I read, the first to be offered are systems from those companies that worked with MS developing their hardware for W10 compatibility, and then newer systems. Others that aren't as new, and even older systems running W10 will still be offered the Creator update through the windows update channel, but it may be months before those systems are presented with the update.

    edit: bolded @cereberus statement

  14. Another old jewel here: Intel's 2nd generation (Sandy Bridge in BIOS Mode). Upgrade or clean installed went just fine.

  15. Exactly, how about listing those features that we all want, like total control of the UI and how it looks on a day to day basis. I dont care about 3D painting and such. I have 2d and 3d programs for that.
