When 10 is not a perfect score.

I think I have decided that 10 is not perfect, especially if it has the prefix of Windows attached.

After numerous build releases, personally I feel that Windows 10 lacks in so many areas, that I really couldn't recommend it to anyone (unless they could not afford a new OS). Even with build 10130, many standard things simply do not work, with the impending release date, I don't see how it could be ready.

First, change for changes sake is never good.
Second, black as an install background, what is it a new-wave sadomasochist look, Goth is so yesterday. Hardly family friendly. <double snap> hated it.
I don't appreciate that so many of the personalize tools have been eliminated. I want to colorize things that match my home decor.
I am not a fan of the new menu. I still want my pinned items on top.
I also like having my Legacy apps separated from my Metro apps (as Start8 menu does in Windows 8/8.1)
I am not a fan of the tiled screen, I truly felt Window 8/8.1 were far preferable, OMG they even removed the enlarge icon.

Spartan (Edge) won't even load in this new build for me, just the start of what I don't like about it.

Can't try Cortana because I can't get sound working.

I realize some of these, are issues to be worked out, but come on, this far along and NO SOUND.
It may get some takers initially, because of the free thing. But personally I feel this will be a bigger flop than Windows 8, it simply is not fun to use and very limited. IMO

Remember when Windows came with an abundance of additional tools and software? IMHO

    :)

  2. Windows 10 Pyramid Solitaire Philosophy

I have a couple of comments Windows 10 Pyramid Solitaire:

    1. "Good Game" message. If you can't clear a deal, the game says you had a "Good Game". I don't consider that a good game...

2 "Perfect" message. If you DO clear a deal, the game declares it "Perfect!". I disagree. At the very least, a perfect game would be to use ALL the cards and score the best score, 1290. Possibly it would be perfect if you did it in one pass...

Have we lowered our standards? Seems like the previous versions were more demanding of us.

WINDOWS 10 AND CARD GAME KLONDIKE

Useless comment. The game did not issue an "error".

I find it is dumbed down, simplified. Scoring -- second + deals are free (no 100 pt penalty). I am getting numerous perfect (745) scores. Boring. I've stopped playing it, after 000s of games in Windows7.

When 10 is not a perfect score.

Depends on what you mean by perfect score.
    Everything works on this system.
Cortana is disabled as I do not need it.

If you like other features found elsewhere, use 7 / 8 / 8.1 / other.
I use 4 Operating Systems on separate SSDs due to boredom.
It's not possible for 10 to include all the features of 7.
Lots of 3rd party solutions are out there.

I'm holding off an opinion until they release it. Who knows what could change. But, do report your experience to them so they can fix it.

I concur with this post. 10130 is garbage on my i7 SP3 256Gb. 10122 was much better and now I wish I never updated to 10130.

My actual whole start menu will not open any more when I click the start button! Same with the notifications icon on the bottom right of the sys tray. 10122 felt more stable and everything actually worked.

Come on guys, I have a Microsoft hardware SP3 and this is Microsoft software. Why is it so hard to make a start menu open up when I click the start menu?

Now my machine is broken and annoying to use again *Sad

Also the start menu did work a couple of times straight after the upgrade completed.
But the icons still look broken/blurry and aren't properly fixed like other reported they were actually fixed.

This build definitely seems a backward step from 10122!!!

Can I uninstall the update and go back to 10122?

First off no OS is "perfect" there are always going to be bugs/issues. Second, if you don't like it stick with an OS that you like.. and if later on you can adopt Win10.. but you don't have to.

I'm curious how your battery life is from windows 8? Mine seems worse in comparison but I'm on sp2 pro i5 256 GB.

    Hi there

I really can't understand a lot of these "Can I go back to build XXX" comments.

I think loads of people have posted AD NAUSEAM about the importance of TAKING BACKUPS -- these days it only takes about 10 - 30 mins to make a decent Image backup of your OS. About the same time to restore. Probably faster if you have installed on an SSD.

Then if you don't like the new version JUST RESTORE the old one and switch off the automatic update or set to SLOW and don't allow AUTOMATIC updates.

While the average joe might not do backups I'm sure ANY user of these forums is quite capable of taking a backup.

I have ZERO sympathy --REPEAT ZERO SYMPATHY with ANYONE on these forums who doesn't take a decent backup before doing an update --especially as these are all TEST builds and are not RTM versions yet - ss breakages etc can be expected (and probably should be).

So far for a test OS IMO it's proved quite good --not perfect but no OS ever is - BUT ALWAYS BACKUP YOUR SYSTEM BEFORE MAKING CHANGES.

    Cheers

  10. I think that the new Windows 10 icons are still a bit ugly, even though they're much improved over the previous hideous mustard ones. Something closer to Windows 7 icons would be better.

The unattractive flat and square look of the start menu, and the really ancient-looking icon designs are making it less easy for me to choose to take the free Windows 10 upgrade.

And the poor games compatibility at this time is a huge reason for me to not take it.

Windows 10 seems like it was visually designed by someone with a Windows 3.1 hard-on, who wanted to re-experience the old ugliness.

And what happened to Microsoft implementing Aero Glass effects? All that's been done is adding a hard-set semi-transparency for the start menu and taskbar (and windows menus too, I hope).

It often feels to me like Microsoft's development team is thoroughly out of touch and lives in a bubble.
