  2. Real time priority

Well, if you go to task manager you can set different priorities for different apps. By default the priority of normal, but I set the game Star Wars: The Old Republic to real time priority, thinking I would run faster but now my whole PC randomly slows down.

    Thanks for the help.

reset process priority on task manager

Why do you think a Process you see in Task Manager is not running at it's default priority?

Give an example of a Process you think is not running at it's default priority, what is the priority you see in Task Manager and what you think the default priority should be for that Process.

How do you think the priority of the Processes get changed from their default state?

If you changed the priority why don't you just change the priority of the Process back to what it was before?

If you change a Process priority in Task Manager, Task Manager isn't going to remember what the priority was before you changed it.

Just change it back to what it was before (undo the change) or restart the system and things will be back to normal.

You can use the instructions in this link to include a screenshot with some examples of the issue:

When I set a different priority of a game, Task Manager always reverts to normal mode after...

    task manager access denied error

    Hi,

Here's three methods on how to do it.

Method 1: Select Show processes from all users in the Task Manager

    • Make sure you’re Logged in Admin.
    • Start your program and open the Task Manager, as you did previously.
    • Click on Show processes from all users to make sure processes are running as Admin.
    • Try changing the priority now, and see if that fixes the issue.
Note: Changing the priority in the Task Manager can sometimes do more harm than good, as it may not leave enough CPU power for other processes on your system.
You would be much better off if you upgrade your system to support the demanding games you’re trying to play. If, however, you still want to use your current system, use the aforementioned steps to be able to change the priority of the game you’re playing.

Method 2: Check if User Account Control is turned on

User Account Control is in place to make sure programs don’t do any damage to your system. It will give you a number of prompts at times when you’re trying to install something, or make a modification to your system, to prevent you from accidentally doing something
    wrong.

    • Press the Windows key on your keyboard and type User Account Control, and open the option to change User Account Control settings.
    • Set the bar to Never Notify to turn off the prompts. This should give you more control over your system and you will be able to change the priority of your game.

Method 3: Boot into safe mode and check if the problem reoccurs

    • Reboot your device.
    • Before Windows boots, press F8 to boot into Safe Mode.
    • Choose Safe Boot and let Windows boot up.
    • Try switching the priority in the Task Manager.
    • Then, Reboot PC and test.

    Kind regards,

    Leon
