  1. When to install drivers when re-installing Windows 10

If your already running Windows 8/8.1 or 10, just mount the ISO. Then go to the virtual DVD, select all files, and do a send to the thumb drive. No need for 7-Zip etc. Just copying the files to fat 32 thumb drive will work in most cases. Some PC's though, will not boot from the thumb drive if its not marked active. I use option 2 here, http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials...e-windows.html to create my install thumb drives. They work with both UEFI and legacy. Just substitute Windows 8 ISO for a Windows 10 one. You only have to do this once. Once its all partitioned and marked active, you can replace the install files on the drive to update it with a newer ISO.

  2. I haven't had to hunt up a driver for any of my PC's in a long while. Even on my ASUS laptop. Touch pad gestures all work with the Windows 10 supplied driver. The custom keys for brightness, volume up down all work too. My advice is to let Windows look for them. Some stuff may not work 100% on your first boot into Windows. Once Windows update runs though you should get most, if not all of them installed in the background. Just be patient and give it a little time to do its stuff. If Windows update says your all up to date, and you still have something not working, then go looking for a driver.

That's what I already said....I just use 7-zip cause I like its features, but all you need to do is COPY the files from any ISO after you mount it, to the usb drive. Have the usb drive formatted to fat32. Do NOT NEED RUFUS What-so-ever period!!! Your link tells the user to use rufus, and you don't need it.

If the ISO is a bootable ISO it will boot just fine.

  4. When to install drivers when re-installing Windows 10

Option 2 diskpart, I said "I use option 2 here". *Wink I agree Rufus is not needed. The DVD being bootable doesn't make the thumb drive bootable. As far as I know its how fussy the BIOS is. My Wife's ACER laptop will not boot from the thumb drive unless its fat32 and marked active. My ASUS laptop though, is a lot more forgiving. YMMV I mentioned just mounting the ISO as an option to installing something just to do that. If you already have 7-Zip installed and prefer that good stuff. If you don't have it already installed, mounting the ISO will save you time, that's all.

  6. My Wife's ACER was a PITA to clean install too. I tried half a dozen different ways, including Rufus, and was almost ready to pronounce it as defective. Then I tried the diskpart method and had success. You have to be careful and make sure your doing things to the correct disk is all. I have 2 laptops with UEFI and 2 legacy BIOS desktop PC's. The diskaprt method works for either one. I could use the same thumb drive on all 4 if I wanted. Rufus seems to be UEFI or Legacy.

Anyway, hopefully the OP makes out OK and gets their system all up and running smoothly.
