    if you utilize the location tab on the properties of the special folders, (pictures, music, downloads Etc.), then Windows will automatically index and search the "other" locations as part of search, It does on mine and even re-locate the desktop this way.

    To be honest I use Mediamonkey for media files and Lightroom for images and use the specialist search functions of the programs themselves, but Windows search is fully metadata aware, although limited compared to specialist software of course
