window s ten does not recognise my toshiba external super multi drive PA3761U-1DV2

I have recently purchased windows 10 laptop and it does not recognise my Toshiba external super multi drive PA3761U-1DV2

I don't want get rid of my external drive which was working quite well is

a way I can get it to work

Alternate driver for PA3845U-1DV2

I purchased a Toshiba Satellite 15" for portability but scarified a cd/dvd RW. I did not realize at the time that I would want 3 programs that would be very costly to download when made the purchase of the computer. I was looking for a low cost solution
to get that capability so I purchased a Toshiba PA3845U-1DV2. My computer recognizes the drive in devices, when searched says it's the most current driver, but in the explorer window when look at the devices, when you put a cd or dvd in, the drive disappears,
the drive its self makes the usual drive noise the light flashes but no windows media player comes up on the computer.

Question: have I gone to low cost, to low tech (something no longer supported), if so what are my alternatives in the low cost solution.

I'm not even opposed to a kit that takes the old drive from my old computer and making it my new external drive.
