You said it is impossible, well it is not. You also may want to know that Avast bought out AVG . The reason I stopped using AIS as it turned into a bloated piece of Junk. I have no problems using Defender.

In my experience it was and I stand by my statement. Do you work for them? Might explain your remarks.

Here is a website that I found detailing this company and its "products"

Avast! Antivirus Scam – A former reseller exposing Avast Software's fraud

It appears that I am not alone in my negative experience with Avast so consider yourself lucky!

  3. I do not work for anyone and Avast is headquartered in The Czech Republic , I had a real problem with their product, but anyone that signs an auto renewable contract may have issues. I had a 3 year contract for a total of $29.00 and I ended it way before it was up . I am not an Avast fan, I like what I have.

    Which Antivirus to Install

    Good day.

Back on topic: I have been trying the free version of Bitdefender on three different PCs and although I liked it at first (very small footprint, although very little to tweak), it did a weird thing on an i7 pc freshly formatted. Built-in disk defrag would not start. I don't know why. So I have reverted back to Windows Defender. Another thing I dislike about BD free is that it's only english language. Other than that, if you are not having any issues it seems to be a great AV replacement for Windows Defender.

I've used both of Avast and Bitdefender, Used Avast for many years but then moved to Comodo as I wanted it's Firewall and Hip, and prefer an integrated system, (with a backup check). Both of these worked well with Malwarebytes Pro which was run at the same time.

With the recent issues with Malwarebytes 3, (it actually caused a BSOD on one of my systems, when first loaded *Eek ), I decided I needed a new Security System that gave me all the features I had with my mix and match setup. After extensive research and tests I settled on BitDefender Total Security 2017 Multi User and have had no issues with it and due to my "work" with these forums, and my profession, I can end up visiting some unsavoury sites on the net.

I would fully recommend the " Paid" Bitdefender and would expect the Free version to be of a similar standard, (but of course a cut down version of the one I use), In fact I have not felt the need to use my still active Licences for Malwarebytes even as they have improved on the initial product considerably.

    @eLPuSHeR

Your issue appears to be one that I have seen with bitdefender, some of the modules can be a bit over enthusiastic, if not aggressive, which is good from a safety perspective but not so good as the use a notification system that can be a little vague - The Anti-RansomWare module is particularly over sensitive so anything that tries to perform on large segments of the disk can be totally blocked, until it is added to the whitelist, This needs to be done specifically and not from a quick click in the notification system. This is probably a good idea, in my experience of the number of users who are completely click happy, but can be annoying, As can having to authorize every application installed than wishes to edit or change any of your private files. The safety this brings is in my opinion worth the effort but as always YMMV *Smile

Thanks Barman58. I will keep that in mind. On the other hand, I am quite satisfied with Windows Defender so far.

  7. I cannot recommend any AV product. I've tried many, and the "right one" for me has varied.

I've found that one product heavily loads computer A, but the same product does not load computer B.
I've found that one version of product X installs fine, while another version won't install.
I've found that one product scans unbearably slow on computer A, while it's fast on computer B.

In short, I cannot find any consistency in any one product over time or over the several computers I use.

I can only recommend trying a bunch of them and discovering which works best for you.
