Windows 10: While trying to reparir Office 2016 I get Error 1406.

Some strange things have been happening with MS Word and Outlook lately, so I decided to do a repair of Office. The problem is that I get Error 1406:

Setup cannot write the value to the registry key \Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\BrowserHelperObjects\{D0498E0-45B7-42AE-A9AA-ABA463DBD3BF}. Verify that you have sufficient permissions to access the registry or contact Microsoft Product Support Services (PSS) for assistance. For information about how to contact PSS see C:\Users\*******\AppData\Local\Temp\Setup000002d8\PSS10R.CHM

I have found various solutions online, but non of them work, including the Microsoft Fix-it. I thought that going into the registry and changing the permissions would work, but the particular key indicated in the error messages is missing.*Confused

Any ideas as to what I can do?

I am trying to install Turbo Tax 2015 in a Windows 10 environment and get errors 1406 & 65535 repeatedly. I have run the Fixit tool and the errors repeat. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Is there a fix for this?

I did try the compatibility mode in Windows 10 and it did not work either. The 1406 error is "the program can write a key value" and the 66635 error is a Windows Installer error. Both repeatedly appeared.
