  1. White backgrounds increases brightness slowly, dark backgrounds lower brightness

As of yesterday, my HP EliteBook 840 G6 laptop started to exhibit the same undesirable fluctation of brightness tha my Acer laptop does. Since I never saw this on the EliteBook before, it must be a Windows update occuring 2021-06-13 unluck 13. I tried to follow the instructions to disable adaptive brightness at https://www.****/blog/prevent-windows-10-from-changing-screen-brightness-automatically. The applicable part of that process seems to be Part 1. However, I don't see a checkbox for "Change brightness automatically when lighting changes", as shown. Nor do I see a Display parameter

    Colors on a Dark Background

This thread is for discussion of and experimentation with "light or dark backgrounds, fonts, and colors". What works best for you just may provide an improvement for me!

For years, those of us with eye problems have had difficulty reading the computer screen because of the bright white background and light gray font presented. We have long begged Microsoft to give us a choice between a dark and light background. Microsoft and other OEMs finally listened and we now have choices! We're not there yet, but we're getting closer!

As with coding, sometimes a new feature will break something else. In the case of dark backgrounds, colors can be broken. The worst "offender" for me is bolded blue!

As an example, I use Windows 10 and when I run "winver", I get bright white! Ugh!

The best description I can give for this is . . . It's like walking outside into bright sunlight!

So, let's all check out our fave backgrounds, fonts, and colors and see if we can improve our vision to the point of being eye-comfortable when working on the computer.

    Colors on a Dark Background

This thread is for discussion of and experimentation with colors on dark backgrounds. What works for you in a light background doesn't work for me on a dark background.

For years, those with eye problems have begged Microsoft to give us a choice between a dark and light background. Microsoft has finally heard us. Not only that, but OEMs, websites, Firefox, etc. have followed Microsoft's example and also give us dark backgrounds.

However, as with coding, sometimes the new feature breaks something else. In the case of dark backgrounds, colors can be broken. The worst "offender" for me is bolded blue!

As an example, I use Windows 10 and when I run "winver", I get bright white! Ugh!

So, let's all check out our fave colors and see what happens with them on a dark background. I haven't used blue to emphasize a word or phrase, but I have used other colors and probably had an epic fail!

Can't disable auto-dimming from dark to bright background apparently

    Hi there,

I would like to disable Auto dimming on my ASUS VivoBook S15 S510UQ, I tried to disable Adaptive Brightness from the Power Options and also switching off from Intel's graphic card control centre the Power Saving Technology thing but nothing changed.

Right now I am on battery, on sunlight coming from out of the window and I can see the notebook playing some funny stuff with the dimming anyway.

It seems to be related to when you switch from a dark background - say ACDsee photo viewer - back to file explorer that has a white background.

    How to fix?

    thanks!
